Changed the bars.  Now I have two problems.  One is that I am having a had time getting the ignition switch lined back up again.  I can play with that a bit.  The other problem is major.  My throttle is not working at all.  May have to get the dealer to come and pick it up.

Watch the following Youtube video.  Shows a cheap/free alignment tool for the ignition switch and a good way to quickly get things back in alignment.  Picture is worth a thousand words sometimes.

Many of the bikes had a microconnector in the harness inside the bars for the twist grip sensor.  They are very delicate.  If yours was so equipped the problem might be there.

Throttle problem is solved.  I mixed a couple wires up.  I made that tool in the video for the ignition switch.  I still ended up getting the tumblers out of sync and can' get them back in even with the tool.  I'll keep playing with it.  Thanks for you help.

You crossed the throttle wires when you put them back in. try them a couple ways. Danner and I did this on his bike as well. If I recall they are red and Black.., red and black. if its just idle then thats what it is. Chime in here Ken

Does anybody know what size tubing you use to make the tool in the video. I'd like to make one ahead of time and keep it in my toolbox?

Then there is more than one error that can happen with variously crossed wires there.  I did that once also.  But it didn't stay at idle.  As I remember it had what seemed normal throttle but the cruise control didn't work and it was throwing TPS related error codes.  Switched the wires back how they belonged and, voila, all was good.

I used a flashlight, screwdriver, and common sense. Didn't need a special tool. Just keep the tumblers lined up. I also didn't have to extend any cables and all wires run to the factory positions. Good luck.

Got the ignition straightened out, now a speaker problem that I think is unrelated.  I'll post on that in the electronics section.  Thanks for the replies.  They were helpful.

Got the ignition straightened out,

Have to do anything unexpected or special?  Or just finally dink with it enough that it fell back together?  The later model switches can be tricky.  Glad you got it sorted.

Didn't do anything special, just kept fooling with it.  When it lined up, I was using the switch itself instead of a screwdriver or the special tool that I made.  I was trying each one.  I just lucky and it lined up.

I was hoping I wouldn't hear that.  I just redid a lot of the wiring and harnesses a couple weeks ago putting in a new amp and speakers (had to make it all fit back in).  I wish I knew when I did the amp and speakers that I would be changing the bars...I would have done the bars first.

The radio has to come out, in order to be able to access the bolts that hold the bars on... Sorry!

Not true, I simply took the bolts by the front turn signals out and tilted the whole fairing forward. Never touched the radio left it all alone.

Same here. Two of those radio bolts are buggers. Had to take them out when adding the 665.
