WO 575 Question for a 2012
« on: June 17, 2013, 05:27:53 AM »

I would like to change out my stock handlebars for the Wild One 575s on my 2012 SESG.  I put them on my 09 SG and I had to change out the clutch cable.  I did a search and, for the most part, most people did not have to change out the clutch and brake lines.  The few that did were for years other than 2012.  Have any of you with a 2012 SESG had to change out the clutch/brake lines with the 575s and, if you did, how much longer did you have to go?  Thanks.

Curious here too.  I used those bars on my 2010 FLHTK, and there was no way either the stock brake or clutch cables would have safely worked.

Went right on mine too. Stock cables were fine.  Didn't change a thing.    Just the bars.  :)

Me too... No need for longer cables. My stock ones worked fine with the 575s...

I concur. Also GPS wiring and Heat Demons wiring fit without issues. But need to get throttle side reamed to fit the Heat Demons.

Unfortunately what this question and its answers illustrate is not a difference in guy's install techniques.  Instead it's that the cable lengths on the factory lengths seem to vary a bit.  That means for bars like the WO575s that are on the ragged edge of the stock cable length sometimes you're ok and sometimes you're not.  It also means that no matter how many times we ask the crowd if they'll work you're never going to really know for sure until you fit them on the bike.

Well, I ordered the bars and they will be here on Friday.  Hopefully, I won't have any problems getting them on.  Thanks for your replies.

I did the install myself before with the 575s on an 09 SG and the beach bars on an 01 RK, so I know what I'm in for.  I really liked the bars on the 09 that I had, so it will be worth the effort.

i ended up having to change my mirrors and go to handlebar mounts.

if you happen to have a little extra width or girth to your upper body your shoulders may block part of your vision with the new riding position your hands are in.

just my 2c     :nervous:

I will probably start changing out the bars this evening.  I think when I changed to the 575s on my 09 SG, I only had to take the fairing cap off to get to the handlebar clamp.  Of course, I had to take the outer fairing off to get to the wires.  For those that have done this more recently, do you recall whether you had to mess with anything else like the radio, etc.  Thanks.

I took my radio out.   Keep track of the wires and where they go when removing them from the harnesses.

I took my radio out.   Keep track of the wires and where they go when removing them from the harnesses.

I was hoping I wouldn't hear that.  I just redid a lot of the wiring and harnesses a couple weeks ago putting in a new amp and speakers (had to make it all fit back in).  I wish I knew when I did the amp and speakers that I would be changing the bars...I would have done the bars first.
