Ultra Ownwers...Who Removes Their Lowers in the Summer?
« on: June 24, 2013, 09:45:30 PM »

Let`s hear it Ultra Owners..and I guess you Street Glide owners with lowers too. I decided to take mine off this weekend and was pleased with the added airflow. However, I did get a reminder on how they protect your pants legs from the rain.  :'(

You guys with speakers in your lowers are exempt.  ;D

Hey Jerry, I can see the advantage of taking them off. Never had any on my 95 Heritage. However, I like the wind protection, and I like the way they look, but good idea for a poll. CAHDBIKER

Nope, not me.  No additional air to the motor, and I can't tell the difference.  Unless it's windy or raining, in which case I miss them.

I have the quick detach kit for mine, still takes a minute but I usually leave them off unless I am going on a long ride. Me and the engine benefit from a little more air.

I did last year for about a month or so. I won't do that again. I do too much commuting on my bike after working anywhere from 11 to 14 hours a day. That protection from the wind beating up my legs is a huge relief especially if I spent any kind of time on ladders or up and down steps all day. Saves on the fatigue factor also.

I never did with the Electra Glide.  The vents open were always good enough.  The Road Glide is another animal altogether though.  Warm (not hot, just warm) weather they have to come off.  It gets hot behind the lowers on that bike.

Given they typically vibrate shut over time on a long ride, I've removed the vents, but leave the lowers on...   :2vrolijk_21:

actually, they direct more air to the engine, so you'll get more cooling with them on (the engine, not you).   in the summertime, i will remove the doors cause even with them fully open, there is still a pretty good size blockage.

Have had them off, but don't anymore. Have the Heavy Breather and taking of the right one is a PITA.

Sometimes do the same with the vents.  Never take the lowers off.   :2vrolijk_21:

Lowers come in handy for deflecting road debris thrown from behind vehicles, as well as less wind buffeting and rain deflection, not to mention the 4 million and 8 bugs they collect every year.

Did once - in 2002 going to Sturgis.  But on way back thru Yellowstone and stopover at Jackson Hole I awoke to 33 degree weather in August.  Never, ever again have I taken them off.
