Paid too much for the darn things on the bike to begin with to remove them.... :D
First HD was a '72 shovel....no lowers (and no fillings in my teeth after riding either)
'89 EG added lowers...never took them off after 94K miles.  95 and 97 Ultra had 'em....love the look of the lowers and with the addition of the vents now, makes no sense for me to remove them.... :)

On the '05 SEEG never take 'em off or open the vents.
When I install them on the '09 SERG this week (with Rokker XTs) probably the same, although I might open the vents once in a while.

edit: 11/27/13 I will never take the lowers off of the '09SERG, the vented lowers are the final piece of the aero puzzle

never. Wont matter in Miami July through September. Way to hot. I only ride at night in the Summer anyway and maybe once a week and its still 85 at night and Humid. I do take off fairing wings and put small windshield on though to get more air in my face.
Lets face it, we are sitting on top of an Oven set at Bake 350F. When you stop, nothing prevents that heat along with the outside temp from burning you up. At least at night the sun is not baking my face.

This might be a dumb question but,is removing  the vents just the nut inside of the glove box? Just sounds better to remove the vents for a little more air. Just don't want something to fall out then have to figure out how it goes back. Guess I need a service manual.

There is a post here somewhere with a diagram. really easy just not sure that xtra inch make a difference in the air flow and the doors have air slots in them. Just sayin.

Take a look at this thread - Trimmed the vents on the lowers. There is a parts diagram in reply #5, and also pics of vent lowers that were trimmed.

I took the doors out of mine.  More air for me and the motor,,,  I don't miss them at all.   And I have Focals mounted in them.   Gotta have those.  :huepfenjump3:

I just open the vents when it gets a little warm.  And up here, anything above 80 is a little warm.

Although, it's been in the high 80's for the last couple of days, and it's currently 91... with tomorrow's forecast to be about 94.

I thought it was supposed to be cooler than that in Alaska  8)

Took a bird once in the left shin on my kaw. Stung a little bit more than I wanted to admit.   Crap and feathers all over my leg.  Would rather clean off the bike than walk around with that on my pants again.  I just open the vents.  I haven't had mine vibrate shut yet.  But that's something I will keep a eye on.

More for the curiosity then anything else I took them off last year and noticed the change in air flow around the bike right away. Definitely more air flow, it felt cooler and didn't look bad. You can notice the speakers are missing when the tunes are on as the sound isn't as full but hardly noticeable with the stock set up. I recently rode up to attend the Americade Rally in Lake George, NY and put them back on, ahhhh much better! Less wind noise, tunes sound better, less buffeting around the body, more protection and dryer boots and pants. I took my daughter for a ride over the weekend, it was hot and we could both feel the heat rushing back on the right side. Maybe I'll take them back off? Decisions, decisions.
