HID Lighting
« on: October 11, 2006, 01:50:49 PM »

American Iron Magazine (Nov. 2006) article - TECH - Bright Beams (pg 166). They did an install of the new Kuryakyn/Sylvania Xsighting Lighting HID kit on an '06 Heritage. It seemed relatively painless and also available for other models than touring bikes.

I've been considering this upgrade too, but I don't like the "frog-eye" look of the one demonstarted in the AIM.  Kuryakyn has another "improved" version, the XE7R http://www.kuryakyn.com/products.asp?bn=harley&ci=3500 that looks more like a standard fixture.  I've been considering this one, but I would really like to see one mounted on a bike before pulling the trigger on it.

There has been a lot of discussion regarding HID lights previously on the board.  Here is a link to the main thread

'07 FLHTCUSE2 delivered 08.25.06 now has 3,100 miles on it - so . . . pretty often & in all weather [smiley=cool26.gif]. I want to be able to see better not be seen better. The factory lighting is marginal at best. I'd really like to know how the HID performs.
H-D HID, has been on my scoot for over a year and i love it [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]
It took a few attempts on getting the light aligned but once it was and i got use to the light....its well worth the coins

I totally agree with Jeffj, well worth it and the alignment was the only issue on mine as well.

The cutoff line on HID lights is so defined it is important to get it high enojugh to take advantage of the HID technology without blinding the oncoming traffic.  You will see better for sure and a side benefit is you are seen better as well, the HID stands out just as much on a bike with one headlight as a car with two for the oncoming drivers.  Since there aren't that many bikes with them they are noticed.

Yes, for a light I would only use in the daytime, But that's just me.

IMHO. go with the Genuine Harley-Davidson Headlamp for a few extra coins [smiley=nixweiss.gif]
If you order it from a dealer like Chicago HD it would be even cheaper than the $489
Here is the link to Chicago HD and the HD HID at $419.96 - you may have type in part # 68094-06A to see it

The Harley light has qty 1 HID for low beam and a regular halogen for high beam (low beam stays on)

Is this correct?

Yup!

Mine went on and the alignment was fine without adjustment, BUT - there are other issues with it. Worst is the mounting ring; it has a big square lug on it that makes it impossible to get the trim ring on fully, even after you move/remove the wires that hold the rubber seal on. When you DO get it on, the rubber is held (by the big square lug) away from the headlamp, leaving a gap for the rain to get in.  (Mine is the "B" version, they are now on the "C" I think, so maybe the've fixed it?) They should never have shipped with this problem!  Manufacturing is not too good either - mine has fingerprints on the INSIDE of the glass!

But it's still a good light.

From what I can see the Kuryakyn light has qty 2 HID lamps - one for low beam and another for high

The Harley light has qty 1 HID for low beam and a regular halogen for high beam (low beam stays on)

Is this correct?

Anybody fitted the Kuryakyn yet?
