new clutch?
« on: June 30, 2013, 03:31:00 PM »

i have an 06 seuc.  Thinking about replacing my clutch.  What do you guys recommend for brand type or other things to do while doing it?  I have no walking or slipping but can't ever get neutral anymore and tried everything else so figured might as well try this out.  Thanks

I'm happy with my Energy One that I put in over the winter. I went with the +1 kit.

BTX14 (Energy1) is what I like to use for just a replacement clutch pack. A lot of the other brands out there are made by energy 1.  They will sell it with a spring or without.

I also have the Energy One with the Aim lock out kit.  I'm at 135HP & 142TQ and it holds up well.  Can't say that about the compensator's I go through though.

What's the aim lock out kit? I was trying to decide if its worth it getting the extra plate kit or just the regular is fine.

I use this BDL clutch kit along with the AIM variable kit....

Whats the stock spring  for the 06 seuc?  is it worth it to just get the 10 clutch pack and maybe the 340 spring?  looked up the aim lock up stuff.  Not sure i really need it unless i plan on doing a lot of really hard riding.  I play some but not sure that would really help me out that much.  Assuming a new clutch and spring should be good enough???

The OP mentioned a hard time finding neutral.  have you upgraded the compensator?  On my 2008 CVO RK, I installed a new compensator and so much easier to find neutral.

I finally got a chance to tear into my primary.  Took out the clutch plates and they didn't look to bad.  The primary chain is still on.  When i spin my clutch hub it seems like my clutch shell seems to wobble some.  I can grab the clutch shell and move it a little.  I am guessing maybe the bearing is maybe going out or something?  Not sure what else it could be.

guess that was a false alarm took everything apart.  Inner primary bearing looked good no play.  clutch hub bearing seemed perfect no play at all.  Guess it just doesn't fit perfect on the mainshaft like the rest of them.  The clutch plates and steels didn't look bad at all for 60,000 miles.  No blueing or blemishes anywhere.  Since my last trip it has been making noise in the primary and still can't find neutral so thought i would find something.  Not sure how you even test the old style compensator to see if its still good.  Didn't think there was ever really any problems with the 06 and later ones.

No clue why a new clutch would help with finding neutral but now its pretty easy to get it in.  Guess no reason to explain it as long as it works.  Can see no real difference in the stock clutch than the extra plate and spring from energy one though.

Sounds like the clutch hub splines are worn which will cause the wobble you describe and difficulty finding neutral.  You should replace the clutch hub assy.  Btw, Rivera Pro makes an excellent clutch!

To see if comp. is still in spec. you measure the spring pack and if its below .650" its bad.  Have you bled your clutch fluid lately?  What are you running your fluid level at and are there any little groves in the slots where the plates go in the basket?  With old or new plates put them all in with the smooth pressed edge facing out.
