Bag Extensions for CVO Baggers
« on: July 01, 2013, 01:32:35 PM »

I have a question for the forum on the saddlebag extensions for the Touring CVOs. Has anyone put these on? I like the looks and was hoping it was a new bag to increase what little space the bags offer. Is there an after market vendor that makes a bag identical to the HD saddlebags but with the drop down feature? I googled the information and got these big rascals that, to me, do not look as nice as the stock bags. I just wanted the wrap around affect on my CVO. If I buy the extenders then I do not have to have an entire bag painted. Just the extenders black to match.
Thanks in advance.

Baddads, Arlen Ness, Kuryakyn, I am looking at these bags. I like the look but wonder about the bags. Any problems with these?

sEARCH eBAY v-tWIN Manufacturing or Eastern Performance. They are identical and come almost 100% ready to paint. The fiberglass bags you will buy are deeper but require more body work and will cost you way more in the long run. I bought the Vtwin bags  for 325.00 shipped and you can't tell the difference

I've sold several sets of the V-Twin bags (look like current CVO bags) and have no complaints.

Bro,

That bike is sick!!

DJA,
Bad Dad makes a good bag as well. The best quality aftermarket bags I've installed were the Milwaukee Baggers . They are expensive , but again your painter will tell you depending on prep it could mean the difference of 1 hour or 5-8 hours of labor preparing for paint. Call your painter first and ask him what has been his experience with aftermarket bags if any. CVO style bags slope down and are NOT a full 4" Stretch bag looking at them from the side. Puzzled gives you a great illustration of what true stretch bags look like.

First let me thank everyone for their response. Looking at the full 4" bags they do look bigger. I like the size of the standard bags but likes the look of the extended bags. I am going to check the different manufacturers and it seems that the Milwaukee bags have the "most paint ready" bag. My painter....HMMMMM...I checked with Gunslinger Paints here in Denver. They are an official paint repair facility for H-D. One of two(?) in the U.S. They repainted my tank(scratch), my saddlebag(another scratch), and fairing(rub) over the winter. They do great work. BUT when it comes to non H-D parts they are not allowed to paint them with Harley Paint. So I have to find another reputable painter for these bags. Let me ask another question, is there someplace a person can actually see some of these bags in person? Harley dealers will not carry these. An Indy perhaps? Will be doing more research. Since I have the 105th anniversary colors the gold leaf decal will have to be done in actual gold leaf I am being told. I have to work  that out with the paint facility.

Blah,Blah,Blah on the I can't paint anything but harley.... Bull.....

A good painter can and will match that and you can find the PPG or Dupont color codes on this forum for your Bike. Mine is a dead on match, as is Puzzled and many many others I have seen. Mine is Electric Orange with flake and pearl in it, white, grey and Black Diamond. A very difficult paint scheme. but my guy in south Florida did it in a few days.
Custom Coatings in Fort lauderdale. Search them. There's a ton of guys in Phoenix that do all the work for Yaffe and Sinister as well. Your gonna pay
$1000-1500 for the set of bags to be prep and painted to match. But if you want the look, you gotta pay.

CVO Brian, I agree about being able to paint the bags, but Gunslinger did not want to jeopardize their contract with H-D. That was all. I have found a couple of painters here that came highly recommended. I have called Milwaukee Baggers but had to leave message. Will call back and compare to the others. Brian, did you reuse your lids or did you order bags with lids and buy new hardware? Is buying new hardware recommended or use the hardware from your original bags? Did you buy new Harley hardware(including electric locks) or manufacture hardware?

I used my lids. My Bike is actually an Ultra that I converted to a SGlide by adding a removeable Tour pak kit and SG rear Fender and Seat. IT has the remore locks I re used.

Great Bags and nice paint match , but look at the alignment around the exhaust and how some extended bags just do not flow well with the Stock CVO rear extended fender. and look at mine how all the lines match to create a circle around the exhaust. I am picky though.
