Flywheels
« on: July 06, 2013, 09:45:14 PM »

I am looking at different flywheels to go back in my 05 electraglide CVO 103. Does anyone know why my CVO flywheels have (what I call exciter rings on both sides). I know one is for crank sensor but is there a purpose for other side?

It saves them money by having one casting that they can finish either way.

Does anyone know what kind of metal the cast 103 flywheels are made from?

I am going to tig the damaged ends then mill the drive flat back for the crank gear. I am also thinking about milling a keyway on shaft and gear then install 1/4 straight key for added support. Then for reassembly will replace old cam plate with new se plate with hyd cam chain tensioners.

ide be thinking about what welding up the end is going to do to the heat treat of the rest of the shaft.save a couple bucks welding it,then spend 4 times as much when the pinion shaft snaps off

I've tig welded the end with MG600 rod, same as I use on Kaw and Suzuki race cranks. Never had a problem. Wheels have 40,000 + miles after welding.  ;)
