what primary is this
« on: July 07, 2013, 02:35:50 PM »

Was curious what outer primary this is.  Its an 06 seuc.  But when i go to the parts store to get a gasket they give me the a different one.  The top left part above the clutch basket has a blank triangle shaped spot there.  When i get a gasket it just has the curve in it and doesn't have that triangle piece at the front of the curve like my primary is.  Is this from a dyna or something?  I know the owner never changed the outer primary just the inner primary unless he did both.

That is the stock outer primary cover and derby cover that came with a 2006 CUSE.  The gasket part number is 34901-94C, and the two I have hanging on a peg in the garage do have the little triangle area you mentioned.  Are they selling you a genuine Harley gasket, or perhaps an aftermarket part or a different part number?

Without taking mine off I can't remember for sure if that little triangle piece actually seals anything important or not.

it wasn't harley gasket.  just aftermarket ones.  There is nothing important just a hollow space where the triangle is.  The last gasket i put on there didn't have the triangle part either.  it just looks goofy when you look down there and looks like there is no gasket there.  Was the 06 a different primary since things were changing? Or just the aftermarket stuff didn't feel like putting it on there.

The official gasket was first released in 1994, as you can tell from the part number, and it was revised three times after the initial design was released (the letter C indicates the third revision).  As best I can tell the little triangular section has been there the entire time, from 1994 through 2006.

I keep gaskets on hand.  eBay sellers relatively commonly put up some bulk purchases and can score 4-6 gaskets for the cost of one and a half at the Harley parts counter.  See them regularly with or without the area you're asking about.  No big deal either way.

C9307F1 for a single gasket.  Make it F5 at the end rather than F1 for a five pack.

Isn't the triangle to make sure you orient the gasket correctly?
I guess a backup in case you can't read.
