Well my 2 year factory warranty is going to run out at the end of August. Now i have a decision to make on to buy extended warranty or just take a chance. I don't ride the bike much these days so i'm not sure it would be cost effective. I only have a little over 2300 miles on the clock so far in 2 years...LOL. I really need to just sell it. Anybody just take a chance on not buying the extended warranty...

With the low mileage you have I would also think twice before buying an extended warranty.

Respectfully, with that little bit of mileage I wouldn't bother.  Your bike's not even broken in yet.  If you plan on continuing to average less than 100 miles a month, you have no need for the ESP.

Yup.  Never have bought an ESP, and have no intention of doing so in the future.  I figure between all the various ESP's I've been "offered" over the years on all sorts of products and vehicles, and the actual repair costs I've eaten on those vehicles and products by not having the coverage, I am tens of thousands of dollars to the good doing it my way.  There may be some high miles folks who make out great with the ESP on their Harley, but the vast majority are just pouring their money down a rat hole.  That's the way the system works.  The many subsidize repair costs for the few, and the middlemen rake off the largest percentage as fees, commissions, and profits.

For someone that's going to ride many, many miles, I believe it is a necessity.  For those that only put a couple of thousand miles a year, I wouldn't bother.  Put then again, it's really up to you to decide.  JMHO

If you have to use the tire part of the ESP a few times, that almost pays for itself. Not to mention all of the mother boards and electronics now part of bikes. No mechanic can "fix" an ECM!!!!!

Just out of courosity, have you done any mods to the bike in the last two years like exhaust or cams?  If so I wouldn't do it just cause of that battle with adjuster when they come out and inspect for any major repairs.  The dealer can say it would be covered but that don't fly so well when your broke down and for some reason they are not covering it from some b.s. line they give ya.

If you haven't done much other than slip on mufflers, and would like that piece of mind.  I would say its your money spend it as you want.  Just read the fine print closely.   I do have it on mine,  really wasn't my choice just the other half thought it was a good idea.  I tried to talk her out of it but the salesman was good with the tire and wheel sale.  She picks up nails, screws and a Allen wrench once one her bike.   She thought in five years it would pay for itself in tires. 

But I plan on doing my repairs with one dealer.  I am one of the ones that normally won't buy this coverage.  I also do most stuff myself anyhow.  But if it keeps her happy I wasn't going to argue.   But we will see I am sure I will use it but doubt I will get my money's worth.  With all the interest that it would have made over 7 years. 

One thing else also I didn't finance the extended coverage.  So at least I am not paying twice for it.   I hope when we by her trike that she will relize that it may have been a expensive piece of mind. 

Now just sit back ride and don't worry much about it.  Most people don't seem to have major problems till they are in the 30K range.  Some sooner some later.  Just do your maint.

Yes i have done TTS Mastertuner, Fullsac X pipe, 2 1/4" cores in factory mufflers. HD shop did the cams & lifters. All other upgrades did on my own..

Just checked with Kutter on warranty with tire & wheel & going extra 5 yrs would be $1800.00. Now just have to decide if its worth getting. But i guess one break down with the ever increasing labor & parts costs. Its only going to get worse. Well i have until end of August to decide.

You do realize that nonstandard cams will allow the ESP folks to void the contract.  Before you waste your money, I suggest you talk to the ESP company, tell them what has been done to the bike, and ask them if they will still cover your modified bike.  And if they say yes, don't take a verbal promise but insist on getting it in writing.  If you read the actual contract, you will find that it has many gotcha's including ones concerning modifications.

Don't think the extended warrantee is worth it if you ride less than 4,000 per year.  Especially if you have been making engine modifications.  Save the money for insurance just in case you have an issue in the future.  If you don't, you have extra cash for your next ride.  Just don't spend the savings on more modifications.  Gas, yes.  Modifications, no.  Just my thoughts.

BUY IT !!  You will be glad you did.  I had a seal go out on my 05 Ultra just after the factory warranty expired, extended warranty paid over $500 ......50 cent seal $499.00 labor, cost me $50.00 !!  

Now I always get the extended warranty if I plan to keep the bike over the 2 year factory warranty period.  Trust me it is worth every cent, you won't be sorry !!  However, I did not get the warranty on my 08 Ultra SE3 did not plan on keeping it over 2 years, well.... 26 months later.....  it cost me over $3500 for a crank replacement. You can get a refund on any unused portion of the warranty if you sell your bike early.

Also, as far as mods are concerned my previous 2005 ULTRA had a power commander, V&H pipes, tru duals, oil pressure gauge, after marker chain tensioner, 255 cams.....and several other mods. Dealer just repaired the leak with nothing said, they did not seem to care.  Don't believe some of the BS on this site, consult a reputable Harley dealer with your questions, get it in writing on the extended warranty contract what they will repair with your mods, most Harley mods are covered.

I never do the tire and wheel warranty, only the mechanical 5 year warranty, matter of personal preference.

Make sure it is the Harley warranty from Harley or from the Dealer , there are a lot of worthless warranty's out there.  The Harley ESP warranty goes by the bile SN when you take it in for repair, no hassle everything is in the Harley computer, including the Harley mods.
