Is this a scam?
« on: July 19, 2013, 11:50:58 AM »

Looking at a CVO VRod that is extremely well priced. Communication with the seller below.

Something just doesn't seem right and am wondering if any of you have seen anything like this before. Trying to get a forum member to go look at the bike.

_______________________________________
"OK, I've attached some pictures of the bike, take a look and please let me know ASAP if you are still interested.

I'm in San Antonio, Texas due to my work (I'm an Air Force MSgt.) and I have the bike here with me. I can deliver it to your shipping address (I'll pay for the shipping and insurance fees) and I'll agree to let you test and inspect it for 5 days just to be sure. In these 5 days you'll test the conditions of the bike. If something won't be like you expected to be you can return it without any expense. It will come with all the paperwork.

I'll deliver it through our Air Force affiliated shipping company so the costs will be ok for me+they will take care of everything (title transfer, insurance, paperwork, etc...). Also a refund policy will be included so, as I've said, you'll have the possibility to return it if you consider so but I really don't think this will happen because the bike is in great shape.

The deal will go through eBay Payments Department. In this way both of us will have the required assurance that the deal will take place well.
If you agree with these terms please reply me with your full name, shipping address and phone# so that I can forward them to eBay. They will send you a complete list with instructions.

I'm waiting for your reply as soon as possible.
Thanks"

Had the same type thing when I first listed a truck for sale.  Don't waste your time anymore.  It's a scam.

Almost verbatim the letter my FIL got when pursuing a Spyder he saw earlier this year.  He almost lost his shirt.  Walk away.  Scumbags.

Mark, not only is it a scam it's not even a new scam.  Do an online search for "ebay motors scam" or "ebay payments scam."

The 'exact' same text when I was looking to buy a Jeep Wrangler three years ago. This guy seems to have a lot of things to sell, real cheap. ;)
I knew something was off when I realized that eBay does not have a 'payments department'.

It's a SCAM!

Ask them for a contact # so you can set up an inspection. You won't get one! Have some fun with them & lead them on. The more you get into it the more you will realize it is a scam. This has been going on for years. I tried to buy an Ulta in my hometown & they would not let me inspect it. This scam is run on Craigslist also!

Here's a link to an eBay scam warning http://www.ebay.com/gds/eBay-Motors-Payment-Invoice-SCAM-EBAY-DOES-NOT-ESCROW/10000000008457620/g.html

Here's an excerpt from that page

FROM A SCAMMER........

**What about if we do the transaction who will allow you 5 days to inspect the boat and all documents. You send the money **to ebay, I delivery the boat with all documents, title etc... you receive the boat and inspect it. If from any reasons you don't **like the boat you have 10 days to deliver it back and ebay refund the entire amount of money to you. If you agree ebay **transfer the money to me.

Glad you are reaching out to find out if your suspicion is correct.
Reading this thread, standout words as scumbags and "have fun with them"

They are counting that as PT Barnum said, every minute a sucker is born...
