In regards to purchasing (if you decide to get it) Extended Warranty there are several dealers that give discount (you will find mention of them in the above threads). If memory serves me right there is mention that Chicago H-D offers discount/best price on these.

As long as you document and have receipts for routine services that should suffice to cover you if you have an issue that the MoCo would try to say was because of lack of maintenance. Many members here do there own service because they for one reason or the other don't feel comfortable letting the local dealer work on there scooter.

No, it is not necessary to have a dealer do your routine maintenance.  In fact, there is a federal law (Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act) that protects you in such matters.  You also do not have to use H-D products such as motor oil, filters, etc.  As 'd00d mentioned, just maintain records and receipts to prove you did the maintenance.
