If a lifter is adjusted properly with say ~.100 preload just a figure for discussion and assuming the motor has been run some time, Lifter has bled the air out, try giving it another 3 or 4 flats more preload shortly after letting it idle a bit but not stinking hot. How long does it take to equalize and you can then turn the pushrod by fingers? This is not very scientific granted but gives a good indication of the amount of oil bypassing internally in the lifter and is a good way to spot one or more than one noise maker.

In fact I have the OEM nonadjustable pushrod, first I have installed the S&S lifters until I see that they need adjustable pushrod, as I wanted to keep nonadjustable pushrod (more reliable) I bought the Feuling ones but I must admit that I should have bought Black Ops or Gaterman which seem to have the best reputation.
