Even though I do not like BaseCamp I prefer it over Harley's Ride Planner. I find Ride Planner very slow and difficult to use, even more so than BaseCamp. I have downloaded some routes from Ride Planner that other's have posted and found that many of the way points were 'off' when running the route from my Garmin Zumo. I suspect that the map data bases are not the same and something gets lost in translation. Not huge errors but if not careful you can be told to make a turn and then after a very short while to make a u-turn and get back to the road you were just on - this because the way point was slightly off.
And I've always used Map Source to open the .gpx file I downloaded from Ride Planner. You're going to have to use Map Source or BaseCamp to 'send' the route to the Garmin GPS anyway, aren't you?

And the more I think about Streets & Trips the less I like that idea for two reasons:
1. The map data sets most likely are not idential to what is in the Garmin GPS so there may be errors like from Ride Planner.
2. I would have to buy a new version of Streets & Trips each year to stay current. Already paid Garmin for lifetime map updates.
Much as I don't like it I may have to struggle through BaseCamp.
