Speaker water proofing
« on: August 05, 2013, 06:19:40 PM »

Hey guys I have been tying to find some info about waterproofing my new speakers. I installed the biketronics 6X9 in my lids and they are leaking into the bags. I did see where there is a couple of holes where the old speaker holding brackets are at. I will fill those those in with silicone. My concern is the water building up on the speakers. I read on another thread somewhere where some one used pantyhose to cover the speaker to help water proof it. I am not sure who did that and I have tried searching on here about it but could not find it. If anyone has done this did they spray anything like 3M on it to help make it water proof? Also would you just put it over the speaker or on the grill. if on the grill how would you get it to stick.
Thanks,
Mark

Cycle Sounds makes lid covers if you don't mind stopping and installing them when rain is coming.

They make a waterproof speaker grill cloth, that you could install ontop of the speakers.  Mostly for marine applications.

The "waterproof" grill covers - some seal but by doing so diminishes the sound quality, others are just simply less porous so they are not really proof more resistant. Cycle Sounds is the way to go. You probably will only need to take them on trips/overnites when ya never know what's going to happen unless you usually head out knowing or expecting to get wet. I usually don't carry rain gear (for me or my speakers) on the bike as a routine thing. JMO  :bananarock:
