Bitubo 12" vs 13"
« on: August 16, 2013, 07:08:05 PM »

I have a 2009 SERG.  I stopped by Traxxion Dynamics (really nice people) on Thursday to have some AK-20's installed in my front forks that I pull off the bike.  While there I picked up a set of Bitubo 12" shocks as I believe that is the OEM size.

I have a EZ-Up center stand and was wondering if I would have any issues if I went to the 13" to increase travel.  I am still in GA and can stop by and swap them out.  The increase travel would be nice.

Any suggestions?

Im on the fence about suspension upgrades as well. I can tell you I found that the Progressive 944's are a 12" shock to keep the stock ride height but that havethe travel of a 13" shock. Kinda the best of both worlds. I thought I had decided to go with the Traxxion Dynamics and Bitubo's but Im still undecided.

My 08 SERK was treated to the AK-20 front end and the 13" Bitubo's when the stock ride just was embarrassing and bone jarring.  I also installed the True Track, you have the 09 so you would not need that part.  Since the seat height only increases about 5/8" the 1" increase in travel is awful important and a good return on your decision.  While I can't compare other products I do know that the stock 1.9" of travel is horse & buggy technology.  Anything should improve your ride.  The only negative in going to the 13" is it is slightly more difficult to get the bike straight up if your are 2 up and have to take it from the kickstand position especially if you are parked in soft dirt.

Good luck

I greatly appreciate the feedback guys and I know it sounds a little unprofessional asking this stuff when I am a shop owner and I work on bikes every day. The truth is I dont know everything there is to know about aftermarket suspensions and I am just trying to further educate myself so I can get a better ride out of my bike and be in a better position to help customers if they have these questions. Thanks again for the replies and please dont be afraid to tell me more.
