Replacement Bars
« on: August 21, 2013, 06:45:08 AM »

I know this has been bought up before, but I am wondering who has changed their bars and what bars have you replaced the stock ones with. Also did you have to buy anything else to do the install. I want to replace the bars on my 12 while it is apart but I don't want to have to buy and hyd lines ( clutch and front brake)and if you did have to change what was the difference in length.

Any feedback would be appreciated before I take the plunge!!!!

Wild ones 575s if you want a beefier stock looking bar.   I have it on my 12 sesg.  If you want taller,, the 578s are a great choice.  Should be fine with stock brake and clutch lines.      Stuart

Like Stu, I got the WO575's. Was really surprised at the difference they made. I guess it's the slight change in posture. All cables fit.

I did the Wild1 578 and didn't need any cable or line changes. Installer had to reroute the Clutch Hyd line in Fairing, That's all.

I replaced my bars with 12" bagger bars, and had to increase the cables +4" over stock length. Perfect height for me and I wouldn't have went any shorter with new bars.  :)

This is what I put on mine. Everything worked fine. If you like them I will find the company and model I used.

Well I decided to replace the bars with WO575's. They will be in today and I hope to have them installed by the weekend. I am doing a lot of extras to the bike right now sooooo I think now is the time.

Curious to see how this goes for you.  I put 575s on my 2010 FLHTK and had to change brake lines and the clutch cable.  Wiring was all good, I just had to rearrange things inside the fairing.

I had to re-route clutch cable with 575's. Otherwise all good. Good luck with install.

I had 575's put on my bike a couple of weeks ago. No changes were needed. My wrist position is much better and I no longer have issues with pain or numbness.

Good luck on the install! Be sure to trim about 3/8" of the left end of the bar or you will have a gap showing between the edge of the switch housing and the step up in diameter. The difference is due to the heated grip controller.  I had mine installed at the dealer and they failed to do that so now I need to pull the wires out of that side to make it right.

I think I want to go taller.  I have the 575.  Looking at the 578s but considering the 577s can even pull them back some.  Probably do something pretty soon.

I was going to do 578's but I am leaning toward 577's or cyclesmith 13's now.

I had 575's and was still leaning forward to reach the bars.  I wasn't able to lean back against the backrest comfortably and reach the bars with both hands.  So, I finally decided on Yaffee 12" MB Bars and the fit has been great.  Better wrist angle, better height and better pullback.  I see a lot of riders shove their apes as far forward as they can for looks I guess.  Not me, I've got them pulled back far enough that I don't need to reach when I lean back against my Corbin backrest.  I couldn't do that with my 575's.
