Death rattle.....NOT
« on: August 23, 2013, 05:10:46 PM »

All set up to go for a nice ride, fire er up, head out and go thru town towards the bridge to NH. Stopped at a light and hear this gawd awful racket coming from the left side of the engine. No place to stop so I go ahead onto the bridge where I had to stop again, racket now louder. Finally got to the end of the bridge, did a u turn and headed back home. Bike seems to be running ok, but just making a lot of tinny noise, only on the left side. Get back to the house, pull into the drive and the noise stops!  ::)   Still running and everything seems ok. I shut it off to start looking it over and  :nixweiss: bam, what do I see but the HORN hanging by its wires next to the bottom of the engine!!! I dig out a nut, find my locktite, bolt it all back together, start er up and everything is back to good in the universe  :pepper: Headed back out for my ride... ;D

Reminder.....check ALL the nuts on the bike!!

You beat me TO it, Greg! :jester:

I actually had that same thing happen to me while riding my old '95 FLHTP. Horn bolt came off, and the big Mini-Beast air horn came off and was rattling around on the primary... Held on only by the two wires!

Scared the crap out of me when it happened... Going about 70 on the highway with my daughter riding on the back seat!

Especially the rider  ;D

What I didn't mention is that I had just replaced the compensator, Hayden tensioner, and installed a Compensaver. So when I heard the racket all I could think of was "what did I screw up"  :'(

I have that feeling every time after I have installed a new part... Is it gonna fall off or blow up?

I have the exact same bike as yours and noticed today that my horn was not working!  It's attached just not working, like me not working.   Were you crossing the bridge to get to Hampton Beach?  Saw a bike like ours getting a 131 CI R&R motor at their facility a few weeks back.  Glad you had an easy fix.

Haven't been up to Hampton beach in awhile, but do head up that way. Where is the 131 getting put in? I'm in Newburyport, maybe I'll see u one of these days.

I had my air cleaner cover come loose on my '07 SEUC. Started buzzing when I accelerated. Took a while to figure out what it was then I felt the vibration on my leg. Rode the rest of the way home with my right leg tight against the cover so it didn't fall off. Loctite is your friend.

The 131 was manufactured & installed @ R&R's in Manchester NH.  I got a quote for their 124" & the 131" but it was beyond my budget.  I believe most of the parts are made in house.  They have a web site.  I drive to the Seacoast once in a while but mainly drive up North or the Western part of NH.  If you are up this way give me a shout.

It's good you didn't take it to the dealer for repair.  That would have been several hundred dollars in parts and another couple hundred for labor.  :nervous:
