You buy the EW for the same reason as any other insurance policy; cause you think you're going to need it. If you're comfortable w/ your ride and figure it's not going to break then cancel it. If the disclaimers are so onerous that you figure you can't collect anyway, cancel it. But, if you figure something or some things are going to break and they've got nothing to do w/ your mods; I'd keep it. I'm keeping mine.

My voltage regulator went out in August and I limped into Low Country H-D in Charleston, SC, for repair.

I was told when I bought my bike that I didnt have to purchase the extended warrety at time of purchase. I could get it anytime before the 2yr warrenty expires. I was planning on getting it...but why would I let them collect interest on my money for the first two years if I didnt have to.

I bet it will be more when I get around to purchasing it though? Might of been cheaper at bike purchase. Maybe the moco is counting that interest as part of payment. Or maybe a good way to raise R&D moneys?

Glad I have a warrenty...had to get new heated grips and stereo after the Maggie Valley trip. The aux input on the stereo flaked out and the Sat. antenna was like it was disconnected. They just put a new fairing on and I just assumed they knocked it off...they didnt fess up though.

Barry,  I think they have a "used bike" rate and "new bike" rate, if I remember correctly.  Having a problem like Brian did, or something like a stator, would just about pay for it.  I won't let it keep me from doing stuff to the bike that I want to do, and like Jerry and others have said, worry about the fight with the MOCO or whoever after the fact.  I know the dealer's make a kickback off the things...I've got one on my car too.  Just one problem can at least pay for itself, and I'd rather cough up the money on the front end, but that's just the way I know my spending habits are.

Barry,
I know when you first purchase a new bike you have a certain number of days (30?) and a certain mileage (1,500?) that you have to be under to purchase at one price, then after that there is a slightly higher price. Also as Terry stated there is a warranty that can be purchased for a "New" bike, and a "Used" bike (I think one of the differences is the amount/length of the EW you can purchase), but since you are still the "original" owner of your bike I think you will be able to buy the "New" bike warranty.
