Problem with Jiffy Stand
« on: August 29, 2013, 02:30:59 AM »

I've been reading that lot's of Breakout owners are having problems with the jiffy stand folding up and dropping the bike. There's even a video of this happening at a dealer show. Has anyone had this happen?

Nope no problem here (touch wood).

I think it is more operator error than the stand being the cause. I know a bloke who has drop his Fatty Lo 3 times now by not pushing the stand all the forward first.

No problem here either, although it's not quite as "spring-loaded" as my SG.  And on all my bikes I give it an extra kick to make sure its locked-in before setting the bike on it.

I take my Jiffy stand off, clean the parts- then put anti-seize on the parts that rub.
-Seems to work better.

Still don't understand why people leave their bike on neutral on the jiffy stand...

I put mine in first gear, then roll it forward until the gears catch. Then I put the stand down and lean the bike over. That way there is very little chance of the bike moving forward at all.

I almost dropped mine on the showroom floor.  it's b/c i wasn't used to the kick stand.  it was different than on my other harleys.  I put it down and then when i pulled my boot back, the bottom of my boot would catch on the kick stand and pull it back as my leg came back.  i did it twice.  thankfully was able to stop the bike from falling.  but the first time, i was at that point to where if the bike would have been 0.5 degrees further to the left i wouldn't have been able to pull it back up.  now i never use that part of the kick stand that points up towards the sky, i just use the part that sticks out away from the bike.

you could see that the bike rolled forward a little bit before it fell over.  i think that was operator error.  he was pretty quick to hop off and didn't really check to make sure that he had it deployed correctly.  the kickstand (jiffy stand) itself is a solid design, but if you don't use it right, it's nto gonna work right.  just like any other tool.

Happened to me - the split pin on the through pin came out. Normally this couldn't happen so I think it was never fitted correctly in the first place.
