Pure Stock BUT Tuned with TTS Mastertune
« on: August 29, 2013, 04:02:15 PM »

I realize some of the first things most of us do with our new toy is modify the intake and exhaust systems in hopes of getting better performance and definitely, better sound. But with the ever looming 'scare' of a warranty claim being rejected because of a bolt being replaced by someone not authorized or approved by the MoCo, has anyone just tuned their stock bike with Mastertune to see how much performance can be achieved? Is this worth pursuing? Or should I make the traditional modifications and then change them all back to stock prior to showing up at the dealership if I have a potential warranty claim?

With a Powervision, not a Mastertune, but no difference here.

Yes, there's substantial power, smoothness, and cooling to be had with doing nothing more than tuning.  The difference is staggering, especially if you tweak the throttle blade control.  You'll pick up more power with a better exhaust, but it's well worth it just to do the tune.

And.. doing this with a TTS is a better deal... if you are worrying about guarantee and warranty work....  A TTS will put an ECM totally back to stock, wherein a PV will always leave a switch turned that shows the dealer it's been messed with.  No such thing as back to 100% stock with anything but a TTS.

This is NOT about superiority either... thats another deal... this is about how the various tuners actually work.  One can NOT put a PV tune in a blank ECM.  PV pulls up a stock tune from a bike; alters it; and shoots it back into the ECM.  A TTS and SEPST overwrite the existing tune with a totally new tune.  A TTS and SEPST tune CAN write to an ECM.  SEPST, since it is a MOCO product, will not allow the overwrite of the 'been messed with switch'.

Tuning a 100% stock bike IS a good deal for sure.  Besides making the fuel and timing better, using a TTS also changes quite a few of the 'hidden' settings in the ECM.

The Powervision does not flip any "switch" in the ECM.  When it reflashes the stock calibration there's no trace.  That's directly from one of the PV designers.  As far as flashing a blank ECM, how do you input the VIN with a TTS?   That requires a DT.

That is totally incorrect from MY observations using a PV and I have a Centruion Pro that acts just like a DT.  The switch stays flipped.  Believe it or not... but there it is.  I can use the centurion to flash a ECM with a TTS or SEPST cal, I HAVE done it.  PV is a WAY smaller file that has NO infor on how the bike is to run.  It only changes the cells and tables you adjust, it does NOT have the instructions a TTS/SEPST cal does on things like what to do when starter switch is pushed, what to do when the BAS turns on, etc.  Look at file sizes, Dude.  I don't need no stinkin DT. :carrot:

The Best you've been told is the best you know.....    The folks that make the PV don't say this... just the engineers from DJ say this... and... since they do NOT make the product, they are to be trusted how far?  Oh... BTW, I AM a DJ dealer, too.  I just never bother.

All the tuners are competent at tuning. Each one has its advantages. For my needs the PV is unmatched for having the ability to have upto 6 maps on the bike. With you wherever you are. I'm currently 1500 miles into a 2700 mile trip. I could never have changed my map to one that was set for 89 or 91 octane. Given the variable fuel, I'm very glad I have my PV. No other tuner offers that capability without taking a laptop with you. Given the luggage we carried with us to the 110 celebration there was no chance of a laptop making the trip.

Heading to the fairgrounds in Milwaukee right now.

There is some to gain.  I don't know if it's worth paying for the dyno time if you "just want to see" then more dyno time after the stage 1.  If you want to tune it yourself.  Yes, you will notice a difference.  Remember that the can download is made off a stock bike and put into all the rest.  It's not made for your bike, on your bike.  With the variance with compression, injectors........  Plus.  That cal is made to pass EPA.  The cal made on your bike for your bike doesn't have to be.

This is very encouraging. I like the idea of protecting my warranty while being able to improve upon what rolls off the showroom floor. Thank you gentlemen.

I do.  We don't always agree, but you always have treated me with respect, and I you.

BTW, I have not, and will not dis the TTS.  I have one on the 'Train, and I tuned extensively with it on my old Limited.  I wanted to try something different, hence the PV.  So far, I'm impressed.

Sent from my iPad, probably while I'm pooping.

As far as I know, the PV head/display has an entire exact copy of the stock tune saved on the PV that can reinstalled at any time.
