brake light relay on 07 serk question HELP
« on: August 30, 2013, 11:07:36 PM »

My 07 SERK has an LED brake light and now I have no brake light. Chased it down ,as far as I could without a wiring diagram for the LED system, and I think this is my problem, brake light relay. Anyone with any experience with this would be great. Is there any way, other than buying a new relay, to confirm this? Thanks, in advance, for ANY help. I really don't want to get run into. :nixweiss:

There are two relays in your fuse block. They are identical so just swap them and see if you brake problem goes away.

As suggested above the start relay and the brake relay are in the fuse panel together and are interchangeable.  So that's an easy first thing to try.  The relay you're interested in is 31579-04 and it's cheap though.  About five bucks last time I remember buying one.

Thanks for the responses. Swapping out the relay changed nothing so I took a jumper wire, and at the place where the relay plugs in,I jumped across 30 and 86,which is numbered on the relay and in the wiring diagram as the switch side of the relay. The brake light came on. Next I plugged the relay back in and pulled the leads off the brake light switch, located down next to the frame on the right side of the bike(side that both brake levers are on).Put power on and found constent power on the orange/white wire and when I applied the brake I could hear the relay click and this completed the circuit to the wire that plugs into the other side of the brake light switch.Looking at the wiring diagram again it shows that the brake light switch is normally open but when I checked it on ohms it showed continuity, which meant it was closed. Changed out the brake light switch and alls good. Hope my post can help someone else sometime as riding without a brake light scares the hell out of me.

Not uncommon for the rear brake light switch to go out. Had a recall on some 2011 models about this. But the front brake lever also actuated the brake light.
