Just curious
« on: September 03, 2013, 07:49:04 PM »

Just bought a 2003 roadking screaming eagle. I am new to the site. Were the 2003 bikes numbered at all other than a vin number. My bike is triked and there is a picture of it in the new member section.

No sequential numbering of the specific model.  Just the VIN serialization which was not specific to any particular model.

VIN Number
HD - MFG
1 - Heavyweight, larger than 901ccs
PG - Model Description - FLHRSEI2
E - Engine Type - 1690cc (EFI)
1 - Regular Introduction Date, 2 - Mid Year, 3 - CA Only, 4 - Special Edition, 5 - Special Edition CA Only
3 - Model Year 2003
Y - York Plant
110000 - Sequential Number

There should be and HD 100th Anniversary logo on left side of the block

If you plan on keeping it, I would suggest these Books
HD P/N 99428-03 - Parts Catalog with Diagrams
HD P/N 99500-03 - Service Manual Supplement
You can grequently find these on eBay

When was the last time the o3 SERK was ridden?

I have been riding it regular since I purchased it. Put new clamps on the oil cooler lines as there was a small leak there. Oil had just been changed by owner. tires are good, brakes are good, bleed brakes for new fluid. I have put about 600 miles on the bike in the last 2 weeks. Drove the bike from Orlando to Atlanta after purchase with no problems.

I replaced my Oil Cooler lines, mainly because of age. That is around $90+ for those small hoses.

Look at your tires. Somehwere on them there is a box with four number in it
The 1st 2 is the Week of the year and the last two arethe year.
For instance.
Made the 17th week of 2013 would be 1713. If the year is older than 5 years, you may want to consider new tires, even if they look ok.

Do you know if you have the OEM "Orange" Cam Chain tensiores of has it been upgraded to the newer Billet CAM Plate with Hydraulic Tensioners.
Something you may want to have checked out.

That's correct for tires since 2000.  Prior to that, however, it was a three number code.  Week of the year and a single digit for the year.  So on old tires you can be off by a decade if you can't tell (for example) if it was made in the 40th week of 1999 or 1989.  Fortunately anyone willingly running tires that much over ten years old has enough of a death wish to begin that something else will get them before tires made in 1999.

This trike kit was not installed very long ago so the rear tires are almost new. It has a billet front rim with a new tire also. I was told the cam tensioner has already been taken care of but I have no proof so that is on my list to check out. I was already aware of this problem with these motors. I put new clamps on the hoses and the hoses seemed very good. I do have some new hoses on order and should have them by the end of the week.
