Oil Cooler and Oil Fill Capacity...
« on: September 15, 2013, 08:33:53 AM »

I have a Jag oil cooler on my 2012 Convertible.  Does anyone with an oil cooler on their bike know if the open versus closed position on the temp valve that controls oil flow to the cooler has any effect on the fill level as read on the dipstick?

I have a Harley oil cooler on my 2011 and always check the oil level after the engine has warmed up.  I have a digital oil level/temp readout on my oil box and I wait until the temp is above 185 degrees (oil valve to cooler open) before I check the level.  I have noticed that when the oil is cold and the valve is closed that the readout on the oil level is lower but I always assumed that was due to the oil being cold and not so much that the valve was closed.
