08 FLHXI 124 SS Low Compression..
« on: September 16, 2013, 08:20:20 AM »

I know its not a CVO but the question came up in another post about this engine.  So for what its worth here are the results. This is a basic bolt in set up. I think what makes this a good bolt in , is the price point  :)

Steve,

Is this the S&S crate motor with the 58mm TB?   I had the S&S crate motor installed last spring and it has the 66MM Throttle Hog with the stock easy start cams, 640 I think.  I have a very small head gasket leak on the front cylinder and will be having that fixed under warranty.  Since the heads will be off what would you recommendations for a little more low end to mid range.  It seems like the 100 HP 110 that was taken out had more kick from the start, the 124 seems to be more mid range & up.  It runs cooler than any v-twin I have ever ridden and it moves right along riding two up & loaded even in the very hot days we had in July.  I don't want to screw up the all day touring capabilities of the current set up but if a cam change & milling the heads would really wake it up I would consider making the change.  I have the Bassani Road Rage for the exhaust, I wanted something else but it didn't workout plus I was running out of time.
I would be really interested in your recommendations.
Thanks for posting the Dyno sheet.

Yes crate engine with SE 58 t/b 5.3 injectors and PV tuner. Ex on this one is the V&H power dual head pipe with mellow crusher mufflers. I just completed a twin to this in a 2014 so canbus with PV and the only change was monster round mufflers and heavy breather A/C made 118/132 . All in all very stable power and repeatable.  I think that the 585 vs the 640 is a toss up its more about personal preference than one is right or one is wrong. Myself would never give up the HP and would happily take a loss of low end power for more hp but that is my riding style. Other never really spin the RPM range I do and for them the peak hp is not something that would use often enough.

Low end power wise the 640 vs the 585 not much changes ,  here they both are ,  I  overlaid the stock 640 with a zilla to this set up and you can see where the changes are at. Tune is a big deal and so is the pipe This is the last one I just did not much change from one bike to the next on the low compression build curve is a little changed but here is a 640 bike I did one year ago. So these are both box stock engines . Pipe change  & tuner are the only things that are different. Give me a ring if you want ray more ways to get the 124 running harder in the low end .

Thanks Steve,  always like to see successful alternatives to the MOCO's offerings.  I'll be in touch, but I know the tune I have needs help.

Thanks
