Rambling thoughts
« on: October 29, 2006, 01:36:34 PM »

Just got back from a short ride with my wife on Elvis over the mountains outside my home here in Dago county. Much as I like Los Dragon ( the new RG) I gotta say that 103 is sweet. There's a hill you go over coming back that has about a 10% grade and ole E just purrs up that mountain with both of us in 6th gear as if we were ridin on level ground. Makes me think it's only a matter of time before I set up Los Dragon with a 103 kit. And you know, E is a stock 03 SERK with only Reinharts, a stage 1 breather and a SERT. I know you can do a lot of things to get more this or that but I just love the way the 103 in E runs. It does all things well. I know some have 103's that do some things especially well, but after owning the 05 SEVROD, I kinda realized that there would always be something more I could do to a pushrod aircooled V twin and still it wouldn't have the sheer speed of that V-Rod. I know that some of you might disagree and some might even take offense, but here's the thing. If you've ridden a SEVROD that has been worked to max potential AND have actually pushed it to it's limits in every gear, and I mean just flat out blasted the SOB to 10,000 RPMs all the way to 10k in 5th then I'll entertain your arguments, but if you haven't then you are A) missing out on an incredible speed rush and B) blowin smoke. In any event as I said the SEVROD experience did me a big favor in that it allowed me to settle for a motor that does everything well. ( A SEVROD sucks in traffic) And as such I honestly believe the 103 to be that motor. I have spoken to a couple of folks I know with the new 110 and asked them " what does it do better than a 103 "

Spiderman,  Well said...The 103's and the 110's are great all-around engines for loaded down tourers.  Haulin' a$$ is always fun, but there's always a Hubbard lurkin' around to blow your doors off!

Brian,
Good rambling thoughts. Nice to read some good reviews about your impressions of the SEVROD. I really enjoy mine. It is a blast even with the GF on the back it stills moves right along. You're right about traffic riding and it's a little strange to hear the fans come on while waiting at a stop light. My next ride will have a 103, although that's sometime off. [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

Ya know for the cost of the 103" Kit on the '07 bikes, I don't see why anybody thats ever had a 103" motor before doesn't just have it done before taking the bike.  Stage I kit is dirt cheap and the Stage II Kit is about double that, but still very reasonable for what your getting.  Get the 103" Spidey, it just makes sense. :)

B...I hear ya...the SEVROD is a fun bike, will flat haul butt, and to my eye, is a piece of art in form.  It even handles well in the curves...but, it does not like to be run below 3K.  For sheer throwing your butt against the back of the seat and hang on through the gears, there's not much to compare it to in a cruiser.  I love riding it.  But, the 103 is equally fun, in a completely different way, but a damn good one.  The motor just FEELS good, whether putting around, or putting it in the wind.  The motor just never sounds "busy", and it's so nice to be able to just twist the wick at 2K and it just keeps on pullin'.

Los Dragon is a fine looking bike, and the 103 would just make it that much finer.
