2001 serg with lots of upgrades. HELP!
« on: September 18, 2013, 07:57:51 AM »

I bought a 2001 se road glide, and went to install new gaskets and found that I have CNC ported heads, as well as se 211 cams.  I have been doing some reading on the 211 and they are probably not the best choice for my bike and im missing out on power.  The bike is at the dealer now getting a new lease on life.  I got the se oil pump cam plate plus new rings, all new gaskets, new fuel lines etc.

Any recommendations on a better cam for my bike?  I like low/mid power,  my bike has not been past 4k on the tach.  but if I can keep most of the top end power JUST INCASE! :mango:

thanks for the information.

Hard to make a cam recommendation with only the generic description of the head work that's been done.  Done right heads and cams become something of a mated pair.

If you are in Toronto, first thing to do is get it out of the HD dealer ASAP.  Then take it to Aviation Motorcycle at Lakeshore and Cauthra. Talk to Raph.  If you are not in Toronto, still do step one ASAP and find good builder.  Cheers.

its at the best place I can get it to.  the local HD dealer.  they build supercharged harleys.  They said it was a good job.  I have no idea where it was done as I bought the bike 3rd hand.  I was doing some reading on the 211 cam and they rob alot of low end power,  and I notice it as my father in law has a stock 96" and he will pull from me on the start,  but once my bike is breathing,  look out..

The cam will really depend on where you will be doing most of your riding (RPM range) I would look EVERYWHERE but HD for cams. It seems the aftermarket is still doing a lot of R&R on performance mods for theses motors. If it is still an 88 inch motor the first thing you need to upgrade to 3.875 bore. If it is already a 95 inch motor you should be alright. Sooooo the question still would be do you want the curve to be high or low???? Then it will be a much easier decision.

its a screaming eagle 95".  I lower end power,  top end is not a huge thing.  I have to say,  this thing pulls hard up top.  I am still taking it easy because im not running a controller,  and breaking in the new rings.  but crack on it on the highway,  and your arms straighten good!
