pushrod tube leaking
« on: September 18, 2013, 10:10:30 PM »

I need ideas. I just rebuilt engine but I can not seem to get push rod tubes to quit leaking oil from above the spring caps. The o rings that goes into head that are yellow...the yellow is actually coming off the o rings. I put in the tapered se push rods and these are the o rings out of that kit. To me it seems as if the spring caps need to go into the recessed area in the head below the aluminum inner tube...but they will not. Any ideas?

Any chance you didn't get the old o-rings out of the heads?

I have seen, several times, over the years that the mistake of putting the spring cap at the top of the push rod tube with the keeper under the spring cap....this will not allow for the spring and washer to seat the ''0'' ring. Make sure your you spring cap is in the middle of the pushrod tube with the retainer on top of the spring cap....this will seat the ''0'' ring.

If you have all the pieces in the correct order, there's no trick to it.  Make sure you have the old O-rings removed from the heads and lifter blocks and you should be good to go...
