Finally new exhaust
« on: September 19, 2013, 01:14:57 PM »

Well about a month ago I pulled the trigger and bought a new 2013 CVO Ultra. I was convinced and even told my wife I would be happy with the stock exhaust and we wouldn't have to buy anything for the new bike. Lol boy was I kidding myself. Every time I rode the bike and heard other Harley's I craved the deep rumble I have known as the "harley sound". We were also contending with the tremendous heat associated with the catalytic converter. After reading numerous posts I decided first to tackle the heat issue hoping that would deepen the exhaust sound and make me happy. I bought a set of Vance & hines dresser duels and installed them using my stock cvo mufflers. Well it resolved the heat issue but I now know why they sell after market mufflers. In my (and my wife's) opinion it sounded terrible. It was louder but not in a good way. It was obnoxious. It reminded me of straight pipes or mufflers with no baffles on a Honda (sorry Honda riders). So my next step was to buy after market mufflers. I had heard a set of v&h monster ovals earlier in the year while we were in the sturgis area. I thought they sounded very good. I talked to a rep at v&h and he said the rounds and ovals would sound the same so I decided to order the rounds. (Wanted stock look). Man they sound great.  Very deep and you can really hear the lope of the screaming eagle cam. I am has happy as a pig in the mud. I honestly can say I have not heard any other system that I like better. Not too loud but so deep you can feel it. Like a bass speaker. WOW.  :pepper:

Just curious as to how much this set you back and if you had any concerns about voiding what little factory warranty there is?

Friend of mine just purchased a used 2010 Ultra Classic and it has the monster ovals on it. Sounds great but I do not care for the look.

I like the look of the rounds better than the ovals. My dealer has no problem with adding an after market exhaust.

Yellowcorvette, did you have a new down load to your ECM? Or did you add a turner device? Also when you get a chance show some pics.

I'm happy for you!

I would hope he got some sort of tuner......that thing runs lean from the factory and it can only get worse when you help it breathe easier.

I don't mean to rain on your parade. But without a new ECU map setup for the better flowing engine, the higher heat from the leaner engine is going to discolor those mufflers in very short order.

Yes I installed a Dobeck TFI. It runs great. I guess in all the excitement of being in the mud I forgot that detail. Lol. I have had Dobeck on 3 of my last 4 bikes and have had no problems with any of them. It seems to be a good product for the money. IMHO
