Cam Installation advise
« on: September 25, 2013, 08:46:46 PM »

I'm going to install the SE 255 cams in my 2011 FLHTK with the 103 engine .  it has 7000 mile on it.  Should I install new lifters as well and can I remove the rocker boxes and use the original pushrods?  I'm concerned with the adjustible pushrods loosening up over time.  What do you think?

I prefer Andrews 54's over the 255's, but other than that, yes on the lifters, I run S&S liters, but woods are good also. Much quieter than stock lifters. Stock push rods will be fine. No adjustable needed.

If you want to go through all the extra trouble involved in using your original push rods but I wouldn't be concerned about the adjustable push rods loosening up any if adjusted and jam nut tightened properly.  It's really up to you.  New lifters would be a must IMHO with the new cams.  I'm not sure how you can be certain that the stock push rods are going to be at the optimum setting on a set of different manufacturer's new lifters but there are people here that have the answer.  You are probably wise to allow some of the experienced engine builders on the site chime in with their opinions.  New cam bearings are a must also.

Change lifters when you do cams.  Make sure you toss the pos bearings and go with Torrington.  I used HQ Black Ops lifters, nice and quiet.  Nothing wrong with your stock rods, just use them.

go with .551`s (S&S) over the 255`s,cut your p/rods out & use S&S quickies & S&S lifters

Probably has high compression pistons in it with stock cams.

Everything run better with some compression.

listen pal,im sorry I hurt your feelings about the #` your bikes getting. I don't make the cam/compression rules, the specs of the cam do.
