You mention in your original post that by removing the side covers, you can access the two bolts holding the turn signal assembly.

Thanks, Twolanerider.  Yeah, I thought I could be "Slick" and just maneuver my a hand up in the fender to access the bolts without talking off the fender bracket.  Well.....after some significant cussing on my part, I removed the side panels and fender bracket as you suggested. The job went a lot smoother after that  [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]  The new bracket looks great!

When I install the plates on these I have always removed the tail lamp assembly. You can get to the two 1/2" bolts holding the lightbar throught the hole in the fender with a 1/4" drive socket.

True, very true, also the tail lamp is a b*tch to get off sometimes. It the lesser of the two evils though.

Have noticed that before too Jim.  Even had one peel off a big hunk of clear coat with it once.  After that I don't mess with it if I don't have to.  The time difference wasn't that much and I was only doing it once.  Over and over again would certainly save the several minutes.  But just once....   [smiley=nixweiss.gif] .
