Coming from my first bike, which was a VTX 1800C, I was hoping that I'd be able to use my bike stand so I didn't have to keep my new baby (13 SERK) on my motorcycle jack to clean or work on her.  The stand is pretty nice and strong - "U"-shaped so you can get at things underneath it.  So, last week I threw the bike on my current motorcycle jack (I think it's a cheaper Larin model, but can't confirm as I'm at work right now).  The jack is ok, but obviously is a little wobbly.  I went to slide the stand in from the other side of the bike to go around the jack, and to my surprise and sadness, it appears that the frame of the SERK is not long enough to use it.     It looks like I could fit it on the back end of the frame, but the front would be too much on the curve as the down-tubes meet the bottom of the frame.  The plate/linkage for the clutch lever is there, and I don't want to risk messing anything up trying to put her down on it.

So, two questions -

1. Does anyone know of a full bike stand (not the kickstand derivative) that could work?

2. If not, any recommendations on a better motorcycle jack?  I'm really not trusting or comfortable with the Larin I have right now.

I have used a Pit Bull jack for many years. They are heavy duty and are worth the price.
They are not cheap but, you get what you pay for. Next best thing to a  lift table.

Only 2 choices........J&S or Pitbull. I have been using a Pitbull for 5 yrs and expect it to outlast me. Rock solid, great customer service and they will negotiate  price a little on the phone. Tellum you gonna buy a J&S

I also highly recommend the Pitbull lifts. I own two of them and also their bike stand. I don't know if their lifts are compatible with the stand you already have, but if you have the money to spend I don't know of any better than the Pitbull.

Thanks all for the replies.  Both jacks look like they're great, but I might have to keep using what I have until some of the more crucial mods on the bike are done due to fundage.  I didn't see Pitbull's stand, so I'll have to go back to their site to take a look at it. If I'm doing major work, I'd prefer to have the scoot on a stand as opposed to a lift, but maybe with either of these jacks that is no longer necessary.

I have a 1800 c and use the stand-maybe the same as yours.
The stand will work on your bike. I use small boards to fit the bottom frame tubes. Only need them on the rear of the stand.
I also use a Harbor freight jack to put my  HD bikes on the stand.
All you need to do is raise the bike on the jack and see when and how thick the boards need to be.
For just cleaning I use a bottle jack with the bike on the jiffy stand. It is easier with the bike lifted though.

Thanks for the response, DD.  Your VTX turned out fantastic.  Here is a shot of mine as it was when I let it go:



It was a great bike, and I enjoyed all the work I put into it.  However, it wasn't where I wanted to end up.  My SERK is pretty much what I've wanted for my final ride (which could certainly change down the road (pun intended). 

That stand is indeed the same one I have - you probably got it from the connection at VTXOA.  I had no problem putting the VTX directly on the stand.  However, the SERK's frame isn't long enough to support using the X-Stand with it.  It's about 2 inches short, in my estimation.  I'm trying to figure out the need or use for the boards since they're going the same way as the X-Stand rails.  I could see if you were running them perpendicular to the stand rails, but I would think that would make the bike more tipsy than if it was just staying on the jack/lift.  I'm probably just not thinking it through - with my current work and study schedules (going back to finish your degree at 43 is no fun), I've pretty much been a walking zombie.
