Ride Like a Pro
« on: October 06, 2013, 01:31:47 PM »

I took the "Ride Like a Pro" class yesterday. It was four hours that flew by. I was really impressed with the improvement in my abilities in that short time. I highly recommend this course!  :2vrolijk_21:

A lot of the Nor-Cal guys and gals have taken the course from our member Mark (Ironhorse) as he has been teaching it for years. Always great reviews. :2vrolijk_21:

You'll be sitting a little higher in the saddle now with those new skills, just keep practicing them. Good for you, Joe!

glad to hear you liked the class joe. i'm currently working with two ladies now that have passed the course at comm college but aren't ready for the road yet. so they asked if I would work with them. I've been doin ride like a pro for years & added some smith system defensive driving used by the trucking industry. Ride like a Pro really enhances your abilities to manuever your bike. highly recommend it for everyone, no matter how long you been riding

Same comment from me, too Joe.  Glad you enjoyed the course.

Ray, noticed you mentioned the Smith System driving course.  Took the instructors course the first time in 2005.  I always thought I was a good driver but this system taught me all that I forgot over the years (bad habits) and not only made me a better driver but rider, too.

been doing smith system since 1978. I'm certified & have the instructor dvd's & guide books. Like adding 5 keys knowledge to motorcyclists.there is so much all of us can still learn & improve on. I feel guilty about Scott. as our cma ride cat. I just spoke about the season & road hazards (acorns, leaves, walnuts & deer) I feel sometimes I'm not doing enough to promote SAFETY. I put on several classes on msf -group riding safety, & ride like a pro free of charge just to bring riders up to speed & on the same page as you ride in different groups.

Do you use your own bike for this?

I did use my bike, everyone that was in the class did. We had 18 people, 3 bikes hit the asphalt, but not mine. I did get a little cocky on my last run through "the intersection", tried to go a little faster than my skill level and did stumble at one point but I was able to correct and finish the circuit without incident.

You'll be sitting a little higher in the saddle now with those new skills, just keep practicing them. Good for you, Joe!

A small group from my HOG chapter gets together on Thursday nights to practice. The prep definitely helped me get through the course without looking like an idiot. I definitely wasn't the best rider in the class but I was in the top half. I was happy with my performance but I will be practicing a lot to hone what I learned.

The biggest thing I took from the course was confidence. It's cool to know I can make a right or left u-turn in less than 20 feet. No more waiting for intersections or parking lots, or fields, or.....just saying "the hell with it" and keep going in the wrong direction.  ::)

Don't take that on your shoulders. Accidents happen, when it a friend its worse, but there was absolutely nothing you or your skills had to do with it.

good take away joe. having confidence & knowing your abilities as well as the bikes capabilities is a great feeling. also, thanks 2ksoftail.. I know, just wonder what is enough. have had to analyze many accidents (bike & semi's). so always wondering about what could I have done or said to spark a reaction. Thanks guys

It's a good class that gives you stuff to practice on but it's very basic. I took it a few years ago with Jerry and liked it.

All the practice is at 24' so you have a lot of room in your u-turns and s-turns.

It is a fun class
