Roy,

This is one of the many things about Federal motor vehicle standards that is rather peculiar.

Roy,

I've also wandered through the Kuryakyn web site trying to find a specific statement about compliance with DOT regs, and I can assure you that if there is one it has to be really tiny print.

Well, I was curious so I sent an email to Kuryakyn asking about DOT certification.

Ignorance was bliss...

Never ask a question for which you do not already know the answer...

Here's another way to get more red in the rear without drilling holes: http://www.harley-davidson.com/gma/gma_product.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524442081077&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374302514675&ASSORTMENT%3C%3East_id=2534374302514675&bmUID=1162697802238&bmLocale=en_US

There is a disclaimer about meeting DOT standards on a SEEG.

Rear shot to show red lenses:

I can't understand why anyone wouldn't make this change.

I noticed and Canuck and Geezerglide and I talked about the fact most Canadians don't do it.

Roger, I agree completely.  I got the kit 20% off from Benjy's for $44 and spent another $2 on a couple clear 1156 bulbs.  It took all of 10 minutes to remove the seat, install the module, replace the seat and swap out the bulbs and lenses.  For a grand total of $46 and 10 minutes labor to get quite a bit more light out back, this one's pretty much a no-brainer.
