Scottsdale area rides ?
« on: November 02, 2006, 07:37:40 PM »

I am going to be in Scottsdale, AZ December 11-14th for business. I was thinking about renting a bike the weekend before or the weekend after. Are there any good rides in the area? Some where to take a night or two out on the road and be back by Monday?
Thanks for any info,
 Mike

Mike,
If it were any other time of the year I'd say go to Flagstaff for sure but it will be too cold in December.  Be sure to go to Sedona and then maybe down to Tucson.  There are some members here from AZ so I'm sure they'll have some suggestions.

Hello from sunny Scottsdale.  You bet we have terrific riding.  In the summer we go North to the higher elevations like Flagstaff, the White Mountains and Sedona.  In the winter we ride in the desert around Phoenix or go south to Tucson.  For a list of terrific day rides go to cyclerides.com and click on day rides.  If you need any additional info or help on your trip shoot me a pm

IROAR,
Thanks for the great site; cyclerides.com. Just what I needed. I never thought about cold weather around Scottsdale. What will the normal temps be like in early December? Do you need leathers?
Thanks,
Mike

I live in Cave Creek just north of Scottsdale. Sedona and the White Mountains are a great idea. I would also suggest Payson or Jerome. This time of the year is what it is all about. However Flagstaff and the The Grand Canyon can be a little harsh.

Sorry for the delay getting back to you.  In the desert we get temperature fluctuations that can be 30+ degrees from mid day to evening. I wear chaps when it dips below 60 and that is highly probable in the evenings in December. I would bring leathers.  If you need help renting a bike, where to stay etc, I'd be happy to assist.
