Speed check trans dipstick....????
« on: August 23, 2004, 10:39:28 PM »

mmmmmmm..... Well I bought a "speed check" trans dipstick from HD (eliminates the need for an allen to check the trans level.)  Brought it home, and put it in.  Seemed kinda quirky to thread in... but no worse than the original.  The package said all twin cam... blah blah blah.  While looking at the HD book a few minutes ago noticed "all twin cam except hydraulic clutch".  Anybody know why???  Wasn't touching anything inside... important parts identical to what I pulled out (original)... no worse to thread than the orignal.   [smiley=nixweiss.gif]  Help!!!  Thanks! If the fluid level markings are in the same place on both, then it is hard to imagine what the reasoning is.

The OEM dipstick is the same part # as that for the hydraulic clutch, so I don't know why it wouldn't be retrofitable.

thanks for checking that.... I actually examined them for a long time and saw no possible issue.  But I replaced the one on my FLTR (o4 also) and noticed one difference.  SE had numbers "2" and "4" on it.  TR had "1" and "3".  Figured they were production numbers.  Otherwise they are identical.  Why would the book say that????  Aaarrrrgh

I guess it is better to dig out an old thread than to start a new one on the same topic. :2vrolijk_21:

Yep, that's what I was thinking.  Good use of the search function by Dave!

A three year old thread made me think that I don't have an easy access trans dipstick! :o

I took some measurements of the opening in the hydraulic clutch cover and went over to the Stealer.  I had a look at the factory speed check dipstick and I don't see where it will fit on my bike.  Took my caliper with me to verify the necessary measurements.  The large nut head on the new dipstick is too wide to sit down in the partial hole that HD left when they cast the clutch cover.  I wound up not buying it.  The local dealer has an aftermarket one that I will look at next week.  They were out of the HD one which "forced" me to take a long enjoyable ride to a more distant dealer...

Yes, I always use the search function.  That's why they put it there.  I didn't even look at the date.  I just replied to it.  The forum reply screen even notifies you in red that you are replying to an old thread...

I have one on the SERK and it fits fine. The dipstick markings match up to the stock SERK one. P&A says it fits all '07's and '06 and later Dynas. P/N is 37154-06. Not good on earlier models though. Six speeds only. Hoist! 8)

I'd have to look at mine as the Baker gearset sticks out farther the the SE version. Hmmm.
