Tach needle end fell of of the speedo and I guess I will put a new one on.

HD stock sells for $300 plus. Since I have had a serious issue with moisture and the needle, I am trying to find a different unit that will work.

Since the idiot lights are located on this unit as well, I figure that I am stuck with the original.

Does anyone know of a different option?

Sorry for the problem you are experiencing, I see there are a lot of posts on this board regarding speedo issues, I will count myself lucky that I have not experienced this particular problem myself. Hope another member can help you find a solution.

HD site says that "Dealer must flash unit before installation" on speedo. It also says that the mileage info is "stored on EMC and transferred upon installation"

WHY , WHAT, HOW !!! I buy a part and have to take to dealer ? ? ?

I believe it needs to be flashed to make sure it has the latest software setting. I have had mine 'flashed' twice and since then I have NOT had any problem with the clock setting. The dealer replaced the speedo head to correct a Lo Fuel light problem, and it has been fine since.
