Front suspension CVO Limited
« on: October 19, 2013, 04:30:04 PM »

Does anyone know if the suspension in the front has double cartridges or just one?

I am happy with my rear suspension (Ohlins) but feel that the front could improve.

I don't think they make a dbl cartridge for 14 just single in the parts book anyway. Billy

The 2014 parts listing I looked at doesn't show any cartridge (damping valve) in the front forks, just damper rods.  I have no idea if it's accurate or not.  The 2013 still had separate damping valves as well as damper rods.

Rear was the HD air crap but I switched to Öhlins.

Front was supposed to be improved over 2013 but it's marginal.

Anyone found a good improvement for the front forks?

Stock is continuing to unimpress me.

I will call Öhlin in Sweden tomorrow to check what they can offer.

I thought the front shocks on the 14 SERK are great I had Bitubos and Traxion on the front  on my 07 and can't tell the difference. I had 80,000 on the Bitubos. I don't see the need to spend 2000 bucks. Love the ride. Maybe its all the new frame and Hyd rear HD shocks but I am happy  And I am very picky about comfort Billy

How do you compare the Ohlins to the stock shocks?

I like the Öhlin rear shocks. Very much an upgrade over stock and handling is much better.

I am not looking to upgrade for comfort but want better handling. I prefer curvy roads over super slab and the front could be much better.

I'm kinda disappointed that HD didn't change the rear suspension shock on the new bikes. The front is in my opinion superb over the previous. Makes you say WTF when you hit a hard bump. Front glide across and rear drives your spine into your skull. :-\

Just curious, what exactly are you not happy with in the curves? Can you please be specific and descriptive as possible?  Also, I'd love the same description for the rear upgraded shocks. If I upgrade, how will that benefit me in the curves?

Mainly two items.

The MC feels more planted on the road with good suspension if you push it. With the stock rear shocks if you go in hard in a curve with some bumps in it you know what I mean. The MC feels like it floats a little and you get some sway. With good rear shocks it feel more planted to the road, it also makes for a smother ride eating up the bumps in general.

Same with the front and I feel it even more with good rear shocks. I am looking for firmer handling and less sway.

Not sure if the above makes any sense but that's the best description I can come up with.

I know this is in no way a high performance MC but I really dislike poor suspension and I rather spend money upgrading handling than the engine. After all I prefer curvy roads and try to stay of the interstates.

Thanks, it does make sense.  I rode today through some twisty MO wine country.  I ride fairly aggressive, and I had a it happen a few times today where you hit a dip/bump in a turn and then the wobble hits.  I also many times feel like the bike wants wander/float out from under me in a turn.
Not sure it bothers me so much I'll modify the shocks, but if it's a huge difference???

The front + the rear playing well together = the best suspension :bananarock:
