Clutch basket removal assistance
« on: October 20, 2013, 07:43:28 PM »

Hello all,

I am looking for info on removing the clutch assembly (37806-03) on my 2004 SE and all the info I have reviewed (fix my hog also) shows a different type of clutch basket.

There is a snap ring and below that I can see small ball bearings. Not sure if there is a nut below as in the manual.

Before I remove the snap ring I wanted to check to see if anyone could point me to the instructions for this setup. Part number of the clutch so I might find the Harley instruction.

Both manuals (2004 touring and SE) do not show the clutch basket that I have and I need torque specs for putting everything back together.

Cheers!

BTW, my electrical issue with the voltage gauge fluctuating and not reading 14 volts turned out to be a burnt stator.

I just removed mine last weekend on my 06. Just remove the large snap ring and the center section with the bearing will come out. Underneath you will see the large nut which has reverse threads. Remove the nut and the clucthbasket should come off with some prodding.

Thanks does the installation of the nut have the same torque specs as in the manual?

14. Reverse the position of the primary drive locking tool.
With the flat side against the upper strand of the primary chain, insert stepped side of tool into teeth of engine compensating sprocket. Using a torque wrench and 1-3/16 inch socket, tighten clutch hub mainshaft nut to 70-80 ft-lbs (95-108 Nm). See Figure 6-41.

Dealer verified to use the stock installation as in the manual (above).

Thanks all!
