How long is the riding season in the Dallas/Plano area?
« on: October 21, 2013, 10:04:20 PM »

Heading down to Dallas for a three month gig.  Wondering if I should bring the bike down here next week.  Brought the truck down today, so can haul the bike back in mid January if needed.  Just looking for a little input as to how the days are Nov, Dec.  Chicago is home.

I'm heading down for the weekend. Can't decide which bike to ride, but it looks like it will be in the high 70's.

I completely agree! Went down for the week of 4th of July for Willie Nelson's picnic. Optimal riding time was 7-9 am or after 7:30pm. I attempted to go out one day around 5pm. Made it about 10 miles. 100+ degrees was bad enough, but humidity made it like I was in a convection oven. On top of that cow chit was cooking in the pasture and it blended in with the heat and humidity and damn near knocked me off my bike.

Blackhawk if you are looking for a good ride, go down to Glen Rose. Take 67 south out of Dallas and its about an hour away. Top of the hill country, really good riding in that area. Stop in at the Loco Coyote, about 8 or 9 miles west of Glen Rose. Beer is cold, chicken fried steak is amazing if you can eat the whole thing and most Friday nights they have live music.

We always say if you don't like the weather in Texas, just hang around and it will change.
I ride year round just about. I agree that the summer is too hot. Ride early or late in the evening. Right now it is perfect other than rain. (But we need it though).

Tell that to the Green Bay and Pittsburgh fans who came down for the Superbowl when it was 12 degrees and iced over in 2011. Pretty sure they didn't see that coming.

Next to Tennessee, Texas is the greatest state in the Union.   :2vrolijk_21:

Thanks everyone for the feedback.  I hope to then drive the bike down this weekend or Monday.  After being here about two week and scouting out the place, I am impressed.  Working out of Plano, and boy do they have the streets worked out here.  70mph out of the gate from the airport all the way up.  Chicago you don't see anything above 55mph for 40 miles out and congestion.

Hope all works out and i get it down here.  Already found some riders at work.  Thanks Laying the Pipe for the ride suggestion, I look forward to it.

I was down there last weekend. Got a good ride in on Friday and Saturday. The storm Sat night killed it for the rest of the weekend. Fly back down in about a week and hoping the weather is nice.
