New opinion of the MoCo
« on: October 22, 2013, 07:57:02 PM »

I know there are a lot of complaints on this forum about the MoCo...me included.  However, after many years of thinking about it, I finally took the Steel Toe tour at the York assembly plant.  This is where all CVO's are built. The tour gets you into the plant and literally inches away from the assembly line, fender & tank stamping machines and paint shop. It is literally Disney World for us bikers. These American workers really take great pride in their work and if you get a chance, it's a must see. You will have a whole new appreciation for your bike, especially when you see how few CVOs are actually built.

York PA is within riding distance for me and I'll be sure to find the time to do the tour. It's nice to acknowledge the effort put into these bikes by HD folks most of whom I'm sure care about doing things right. Thanks for sharing.

I did a tour of the KC plant this year, I would like to do the tour at York too.
I think it does give you a different perspective and appreciation of the bikes and HD.

i've been to the kc plant, and the powertrain factory in wi.  both are very worthwhile, and do give a nice bit of insight into how our bikes come into being.

the steel toe tour in york is a 'must do' but i don't know when i'll be up in that area.....  still good to have a goal to reach for  :bananarock:

I just did it and will be in KC in December, so I hope to tour there too, to see how my V-Rod was made.

I enjoyed the York tour so much I went back and did it again a few years later. Just don't go during the "model change over" before the new bike are shown to the dealers at the summer meeting because you will end up with the "abbreviated" tour since they won't let you see the new models being built before the dealers get to see them.

I've been thru the York plant a couple of times - it's very informative and impressive.  I'll be in York next week and will probably go thru again...I'd like to hear the pitch on the new water cooled engines. I did find it odd there is one assembly line for all bikes produced there rather than a line for each model.

Wonder how the tour guide would respond if I asked him how come the 2014s leak coolant and why the clutches don't work?
