fuel injection spraying onto motor
« on: October 26, 2013, 12:11:21 AM »

I recently put a Arlen Ness Big Sucker I complete air cleaner on my 2007 96" Deuce. I fired it up today and everything was fine. I took the bike out to warm up the oil prior to changing the oil. The bike ran fine for the 15 minute warm up ride. I did the change on the floor w/o using the lift table. When I straddled the bike to straighten it up to get all the oil out of the oil tank, fuel sprayed from behind the air cleaner towards the front cylinder. The bike was turned off at this point and I was concerned because fuel was getting on the hot front exhaust pipe and I was concerned about fire. The spraying lasted about 1-2 seconds and then quit w/o incident. I looked behind the air cleaner and I could not see where or why the fuel had sprayed. I did notice that a small wiring harness that used to plug into the back of the stock air cleaner was not plugged into the new Arlen Ness back plate and was just hanging up by the injector.

I started the bike up and everything works fine. Does anyone have any ideas as to what triggered the spraying? Thanks in advance.

Double check the fuel line coming out of the tank and the injectors.  Those are the only pieces that are pressurised with fuel.  That plug that went into the stock backing plate is for the international models that have a flapper on the air box.

Thanks for the response  to my problem Joe. I have checked all the lines and I come up empty on finding any leaking or injector issues. The short spray shot appeared to come from the throttle body area behind the backing plate and shot towards the front rocker box and then dripped onto the exhaust. I have tried powering it up to activate the pump and pressurize the system and no leaks. I have started it and ran it with no leaks. The harness that was plugged into the back of the backing plate has the Christmas tree style plug in and must be as you mentioned, for the international models. It just hangs loose and out of the way now.
