New HAT 6.5's and 5x7's
« on: October 27, 2013, 10:16:29 PM »

I installed the HAT Imagine 6.5's and 5x7 speakers and also lined the faring with Rattle Trap 80MM sound deadner today.

I got the speakers and deadning kit from No Cage Audio at the Boo rally.

I am pushing the saddlebag speakers with the HD CVO amp and the 6.5's with the Hawg Wired RS400 amp.

I was running the 6.5 Hawg Wired ZX's and the HD CVO 5x7's and loved them. But heard the HAT's at the Rally.

What was a great sounding system is IMO now special. The crispness and clairity does not waver even at full Vol.

I am not sure how much is the speakers and how much is the deadning but the bass is much more pronounced. I can quit worring about subwoofers now.
There is some cost difference between the speakers, but there is a notable performance increase. IMO I got what I paid for and that is not always the case at events that sell beer

I've heard the HAT's are water-proof - is that the case for both the 6.5's and the 5x7's?  The factory sound in my 13 SERK is nice, but it is severely lacking in the lower end of frequencies.  This would be my biggest driver (pun intended) to upgrade to a HAT-based solution from someone like Sound Customz.

I was impressed about the white car video most of interior was unfinished but the sound even over my little Mac was impressive. Be cool to have your bike sound that good.

They are both marine rated speakers. We are going to do this install on my buddies 13 SERK in a couple of weeks. We will send the entire wiring harness in the saddlebag to No Cage Audio and they will do the Wiring Harness mods to accept the RS400 amp and install all the power wiring quick connects, the speakers are already wired in parallel from the factory. The whole package with RS400 AMP, amp hookup kit, HAT 6.5's and 5x7's and wiring Harness mods is $1100.00 shipped.

Definitely will be interested in the results after the install.  I like the sound of the factory Boom Audio on my 13 SERK, but it doesn't have hardly any bottom end to it.  When you drive speakers hard that don't have any bottom end, it ends up sounding harsh (at least to my ears).  Some of this may be the EQ limitation of the iPod.  I got a little more bass response moving from the Rock to Bass Booster setting, but that is equivalent to saying that Kate Moss is fat.

I'm not familiar with HAT or No Cage, but the best in the country, and who did my system, is Pete @ Soundz Customz.  At $1100, sounds like Soundz is the better deal?

I know Sound Customz does great work, but also know that the common build that is installed puts Focal speakers in the lower fairings - which aren't waterproof.  I know that they are on a steep angle, but they are so expensive that I would be worried about water damage no matter how much water got into them.

I have the Focals krc165 in the fairing and the lowers.    No issues at all after one year.  I have the arc audio 4 channel amp and no problems anywhere.     I went with the HAT 5x7 in the bags,,  they sound great,,, bass is much improved and no leaks whatsoever.  I think bang for the buck,, this is a great combination.  The Focals up front are fine at that angle and in the fairing.  I wouldn't worry about any problems there.     Stuart.
