Lifters & cams
« on: October 31, 2013, 06:22:58 AM »

Well I think its time to change lifters, 35,000 on my 2009 serg thinking about changing cams also not sure I want to pull heads ? this thing has run smooth and quite since new thunder header race tuner,
might change to a TTS master tune there is a stumble every time you shift like some one turned it off, thinking about SS570 or 585 may need to make it 10 to1 ? any ideas ?

You can re-surface the heads to reduce the combustion chamber volume to establish that 10.0 cr, also factoring a .030" head gasket.
S&S .570, with their lifters and pushrods will be a very nice cost-effective set-up.
The .585 won't have the "hit" coming off the bottom of the torque curve, like the .570.

Thanks Kirby and Scott i'm looking at the 570 route I don't want to have to redo the heads just plain them to get 10 to 1 with a .030 gasket

Last one of those we did was for a client from Binghamton, NY.
Mid-teens square, if I remember correctly.
He said it really cooled the bike waaaaaaaaay down also, vs the 255.

Getting it tuned sounds like a great idea from what you posted..   Every bolt in cam that we have seen, tested and even have ground make in the 107-112 hp range and tq in the 116-120 range on avg. Without other changes. The heads vary a fair amount in chamber volume so you have some that run a good % better than others.

You need to know before you send the heads off and have them decked how many CC's they will need to be and one of the components in that number to get you to your 10.0 - 1 is how far your pistons are in the hole.

If your pistons are at 0 deck then you need the heads cut to meet 92.7 CC, but if your pistons are 6 in the hole you need 91.5 cc chambers to reach the 10 to 1.   Optimal squish is what is going to help make the bike react as well as proper headwork.

Thanks again guys, GMR it is turned and been that way since 2009 with a screaming Eagle race tuner and I did talk to Steve Combs about leg he said and some of the early 09 tuners you could not get read of lag, that is the reason for going with TTS Mastertune, and yes the guy doing the work knows this very well, I did see a guy has heads cylinders pistons and  cams from GMR for sale but he said they do have some chips in them, so I'll just keep mine, and if I have to change pistons I will go with 10.5 to 1 and 585 cams. And my riding style is push the button and go, I do not want to screw with Miss matched parts and pieces, thanks Kirby and it was good talking to you on Friday.

CC'ing the head, and checking piston deck height is, without saying, how that is done.
A nice tight squish band will create a more turbulent chamber, and the closer the piston is set to the heat, without contact, during operating temps, the less denotation-prone it'll be.

Phil  Glad to hear its going well..  Just keep in mind as I posted in another  thread ports are large in stock form having some one donig the stage ii or ii kit may be great for a larger engine but in a 110 it can get picky. As for the 585 if makes a decent dyno sheet but still a little soft down low and there are better cams that will produce more low and mid range with peak numbers coming in very close to the 585 or better in some cases  :)
