2014 CVO Road King Mufflers
« on: November 04, 2013, 04:20:27 PM »

Hello,

Newly registered...trying to learn a little about the CVO Road King and trying to learn as much as I can about the bike.

Does anyone know what muffler comes stock on the 2014?  I've heard it a few times at the dealer and it sounds much better than the stock pipes on other models.

Wondering if this is the HD Thunder slip-ons??

Thanks for any feedback.

it is little bit louder than other bikes but stil sounds like a "Honda", I don't like it I want my bike (2014 CVO RK) to sound like real Harley that's why I bought Drago's Dragula  :bananarock:

Thanks for the feedback.  Agree the stockers are on the mild side due to the EPA compliance.

I think it's the best in class for that category of pipes.  I'm pretty sure these are the Screamin' Eagle Thunder pipes.

They are not a straight through design... so you can bet they are quiet.  The outside body is larger than the regular touring bikes.  The tips are pretty nice. Bit thats about it.  Not much in the "harley" sound you are looking for.

they look just like the stock cvo pipes that came  on my 13.  replace the baffle with a fullsac cvo recore and they sound great  :bananarock:

I am not sure I understand your question but the '14 CVO Road King comes with 4" Screamin' Eagle mufflers.  They are slightly louder than a non-CVO model, but a far cry from anything that sounds good in my opinion.

Put V&H on mine, and stage 1. Sound great, but not too loud. Nowhere near as pound as my V&H big shots I had on my Heritage

There is a difference between domestic and HDI mufflers in 2014 SERK, as it seems to me. From other forums I can say that domestic mufflers have straight through baffle with a plug in the end, that can be easily cut with a hole saw.
Mine, being HDI, had very restrictive baffle (see pic), that sounded like... Cant really describe this. Sound was weak, muffled, almost nonexistent at idle (just the mechanical noise). Not pleased at all.
First step I have removed the catalyst. I got more db's but sound QUALITY did not improve at all.
I googled some images of CVO baffles and copied the design I liked best. Bought some 42 mm mild steel pipe, reused both ends off my stock baffle, couple welds, black exhaust paint, one hour's work and thats it.
Am really happy with the sound. It is deep, mellow, with a crisp bark when I twist the throttle. Not very loud at highway speed.

I just cut my stock baffles and came up with this.  Hope to install this weekend and see how they sound.  I would get the fullsac cores, but they don't make them for my Softail CVO

Here is a short video to compare three stages – stock, stock no cat, final.
All three clips were shot using the same camera with same microphone level setting, same distance from the bike.

The Touring CVO's use a unique production muffler that is slightly higher in flow and sound level than the standard bikes but is not the same as any of the mufflers in the catalog.  That's been true since at least 2004.  I wouldn't make any assumptions about how that Thunder slip-on sounds based on the CVO.  And I think that Thunder muffler is only 3.5" diameter, whereas the CVO mufflers are 4.0" diameter.

normally the U.S. mufflers are more released than elsewhere
