Improvements on front forks for fxr's
« on: November 07, 2013, 10:38:12 AM »

Has anyone here replaced or made improvements in the front forks over stock configuration from HD? I'm looking to make mods on my fxr2 and maybe fxr3 to the stock set up. Any suggestions would be appreciated.  Dave  There must be something better out there?? At reasonable prices??

You could install a fork brace. I put one on my 96 Wide Glide years ago and could feel the difference in the twistys so it has been on there for years.

A set of Dyna/Sportster adjustable forks is the way most people go, but they are getting hard to find.

You can put emulators and new springs in the ones you have, or send em out and have it done.

And some people like to put air on the forks. either just by adding Shrader valves or using a salvaged anti dive setup.

The hard core FXR folks are going with inverted forks, but that can cost quite a lot.

I already have fork brace on my fxr2. I had fellow couple of years ago recommend a specific front end mod..said it improved handling and bumps in the road, or cracks..can't remember what brand he suggested.,i guess this comes with age! it might be the traxion folks over here in Ga. he swore by the changes he made in the suspension.  dave

Once I have the money, my suspension changes will be as follows. Traxxion AK20 kit with adjustable compression/rebound and a set of JRI "B" Shocks. A fork brace will also be added. Not cheap by any means, but the best option out there without going to inverted or new forks altogether.
