American Elites or Commander 2s on '05 SEEG???
« on: November 11, 2013, 04:56:29 PM »

The '05 SEEG needs some new shoes F/R and I am undecided between the Dunlop American Elites or the Michelin Commander 2s.

'Would really appreciate any opinions out there.

This is probably a personal preference...
I had just got finished doing a ton of reading and then more reading because I was down to 2 manufactures
Dunlop American Elites II or the Michelin Commanders 2
What sold be was when there is a Motor Cop who ran the Michelin Commanders 2 tires on his bike after reading so much positive reviews and posted just how much he disliked them when it was wet out side was all I needed...I figured a Motor cop who rides more then I do will give a honest evaluation...

So for this reason, along with others who had the slipping when it was wet was just a bonus for me not to buy this product...
I read where some of the members was getting mega Miles out of there tires and I didn't want a hard rubber that wasn't going to grip well in a multitude on conditions whether it be wet or dry...
Google is your friend on this matter...

Put a set of the new Metzler 888's on my SEEG this summer.  About 2500 miles on them and I am very impressed.  GREAT handling wet or dry and wear seems to be better.  Check them out!

Just put Michelin Cmdr IIs on my 07 cuse2. Hoping to avoid the cupping I always get with the Dunlops. Not ridden in the rain but after about 500 miles I like them fine. Ride seems less harsh than the Dunlops.

i have used the Elite 3 bias tires on my 04.  they wear great and great handling too...  I got 12k from my last rear and the front is still pretty good,,  I think thats the best way to go,,, :2vrolijk_21:

I have always run Metzelers and love them. I guess it personal preference & riding conditions. BTW I have never got over 10K out of a back, maybe they are softer than Elites. 12K is outstanding, I usually get 8-9K

Commander ll's.  Best riding tire and NO they don't slip on wet pavement. The best part is they won't cup!   :2vrolijk_21:

Both front and rear cupped at 8,000+ miles, they were ok and rode well for that long. I am anal about tire pressure.
By the way the front was replaced first with a new CommanderII,it was defective causing very slight hop at all speeds.

I went with Dunlop USA made American Elites for replacements, they ride just as well as the Commanders.

I haven't used the Commander 2, but two good friends have them and have said "excellent wet traction," and both have gotten great mileage. One bike is a Dyna, and the other is an '09 Ultra Classic. I would have gotten Commanders, but they aren't made in the right size (need 180/55 x 18 for SERGU).

2004 SEEG ,   ~5000 miles on set of commander II's ...  no complaints ... look like new at 5k ...Ride smooth as silk.    i have the centromatic dynamic wheel balancers so doubt cupping would ever be an issue .. I normally get ~8k out of a rear tire ...  looking forward to long tread life.

I went through two 407's (10,000 miles on the first tire and 14,000 on the second) and both of them started cupping and roaring at 6,000 miles. In hopes of seeing Dunlop's advertized improvements, I switched to the American Elite and it started cupping and roaring at 7,000 miles. The only difference I see between these tires are their tread patterns.
I will agree that they both handled well but I'm not impressed with multi-compound tires.

I'm going to order a set of Michelins and give them a try. They can't be any worse.

I also have mich on rear of 2012 cvo ultra. have 20k on dunlop frt & getting ready to replace it with a mich come feb. always ran dunlops in the past, but like the performance of mich on bigger, heavier bike. not crazy about the dual compound on dunlops at this time. just mho. guess it's just preference. ask 50 people. get 51 opinions
