A question about tour packs.
« on: November 13, 2013, 01:53:11 AM »

I am considering swapping out the leather Camel Hump on my '06 Ultra for a matching King Tour Pack.
Does anybody know if the new Harley Latch Kit can be be mounted on a pre 2014 tourpack?

I'm talking about this one here.

http://www.harley-davidson.com/store/gloss-black-tour-pack-hinge---latch-kit

It looks like any competent painter and body man ought to be able to install it, but I really don't know. Has anybody looked at the types of two tour packs side by side and been able to see if the edge of the bottom, and lip of the upper lid line up properly to do so? I can't imagine it being too difficult, but with Harley you never know.

I'd go down to a dealer and check myself, but where I am, there are no dealerships. Can anyone tell me if the sides of the two tourpacks are similar enough?

I used to make fun of the leather TP when my friend got his '06 CUSE, saying that it looked like King Kong's left nut.

I wouldn't change it out unless you have to since that is the only year that HD put it on a Ultra jmho

But to answer your question, Don't know if the latches will fit

I asked this very question at the dealership awhile back. I had waited so long for my tour pack to get in the 14's were out, I asked them if they would put the new hardware on it for me.... of course I just got the deer in the headlights look! I asked the parts guys about it and got the same response. But when I asked the dealership only had the new bikes for few days so I don't think they were up to speed yet.

The leather tour pak is on the 06 and the 07.  Two years only.

Mark...it says it only fits the '14 style TP.  Of course, that doesn't always mean it WON'T fit prior year models, but with the changes to the design of the TP for '14, it is highly probable that it won't.

Your only choice might be to buy a '14 model King TP...or keep the Ninja Turtle version on the bike.  I personally like the leather TP that came on the '06 and '07 models, but I'm prejudiced because I owned an '06.  It made them distinctive.

I have always felt the same way, it made it different than an Ultra.

I like the look of the Camel Hump too, and I'd keep it on if I rode alone.

But my gal says she does not get enough back support on it, a complaint I never had with my other Ultras. I also miss having the full size rack on top that my fit my rack bag perfectly. And, regardless of what the MoCo says in terms of volume and displacement, it has a smaller capacity than the King Tour Pack. I've decided to go with one that does not have the Ultra light bar to get that extra bit of room. I found one that came with the back rest, speakers, an illuminated wing across the back, and CB antenna mount already installed. I may ditch the wing if the look conflicts with the rack.

Joe Zett at Xtreme Dimension is doing the paint work to match. I'm having it done with the Billet Hinges, and a Bagger Brace instead of the stock tether. I am also considering a logo or design on the back of the tour pack that functions with the tail light and brake light.

I agree that it does not hold as much as the King TP, Mark...it's more like about a 3/4 king and sometimes you need that bit of extra room.  Never had any complaints from my BSR at the time about comfort though, but everybody's back is a little different, and the MAIN thing is to keep the BSR happy.  Post a photo when you get the work completed  :2vrolijk_21:
