I traded in the "tank"
« on: November 16, 2013, 08:25:56 PM »

 ::)

Well,  I certainly enjoyed  (for a while),  the coolness and super paint job and all the extra goodies that came with my 2009 SE Ultra CVO.  At first,  it captured my eye on the showroom floor as the red color was so close to the color of my old streetrod.............a '39 Chevy.

I bought it and my wife and I......along with another couple made plans to attend the 2009 Sturgis Rally.  We did that and had a great time overall.

However,  I was less than happy with the overall weight of this bike......close to 900 pounds before I got on it.   Having had two Road King Classics before this bike,  I was experienced and quite able to handle the weight of a Tour model,  but the Ultra was just more than I liked for overall weight.

It's a PIG and the front end felt extra heavy to me also,  like steering a snow plow.

Consequently,  over the last 5 years,  I logged less than 10,000 miles.   Overall,  I'm not into cross country riding (which is what this bike is really made for),  and thus I just didn't care to deal with trying to man handle this pig for around town (tavern to tavern) type riding.

Took a demo ride on a new 2014 Street Glide Special last week.  It's over 150 pounds lighter and "feels" like it is closer to 300 pounds lighter.  It was even easier to handle than my old Road King Classics.

Made a super deal on a trade....Someone had (almost) bought the new bike and then had to back out.  As a result,  the bike had V&H pipes,  Rinehart mufflers and a high flow air cleaner and a Harley "tuner".  Along with that,  I got the dealer to add matching grips,  highway pegs,  a taller wind screen and a transmitter for a GDO....since I kept the receiver part from the CVO.

Had them switch out the LED headlite that I had purchased for the CVO into the new bike (which had the old style headlite).   New bike has large screen navigation with GPS and easier opening saddlebags and controls................I'm pretty happy so far with this deal.

Will be updating my Aviatar soon.

Weight only matters if you are going to carry your MC  :nixweiss:

But whatever makes you happy, enjoy the new MC. Maybe attending a Ride like a Pro class will be a good start to get used to it?

Or making slow loops in a parking lot with a BSR, hunting a parking spot!!  :-\

Congrats on your new ride, the difference in weight is the reason I have the 2009 CVO RoadGlide instead of the 2009 CVO Ultra in Las Vegas.

Although I really like my wife's new SG Special (actually we both ride it)- My favorite is still my Duracell.
One of the coolest things about the new bike is the color- Amber Whiskey.
Hold a shot glass full of good old Jack Daniel's up to the light.  An exact match!
I wonder how they came up with this color?  Oh, I think I could guess.  :duhk:
My wife named the bike Jack.

Still love my '12 "PIG/tank," but then again, 2,000 miles a year is just one good weekend (RibFest or MV).  :-\

Enjoy your bar hops.  Definitely don't need a SEUC for that. :2vrolijk_21:

Good Choice, if you don't ride much no need for an Ultra
