Please recommend a shop that KNOWS the cvo engines
« on: November 18, 2013, 10:08:05 AM »

I will be doing some engine work soon and want to be sure that I am dealing with someone that truly understands the SE engine components. I realize that they are very similar to the garden variety stuff, but they are different, and I am looking for someone that is well versed in what it takes to make the SE engines work well given their differences.

Thanks in advance...

Might help to know where you are located when recommending shops to assist you. :nixweiss:

Metal Dragon, Hayward, Ca. works on more CVOs than anybody else!

I don't know where you live, but T-Man Performance in Kernersville, N.C. does excellent work with a lot of attention to detail. You didn't say what you were wanting to do...head work and a cam or a full blown 150 horse build...either way he can help you out. I did mine this past winter and I still grin when it's time to rock n roll.

Check out Mondello Tech Center in Crossville.  They do H-D head work and know what they are doing.

If you are looking to stay close  T man is somewhat close .. What are you looking to do.. A CVO head does not need much to run well. That has been proven however there are still shops that will make the ports too large and that may work very well for a larger CI engine however on the 110 its easy to push too far. The flow sheet may be one thing they push however once its together its another story.

Look back at my other post on power levels with stock heads and then adding a larger valve. In most cases the right combo with a larger T/B will run very well with very little worked needed to get there. Each will have there own goal.

Probably the most simple head Harley currently offers to improve without actually doing much in the way of porting.

They will outflow the MVA heads with very little work and a much smaller port.

Easiest improvement is a little blending, minor port correction and  using the 2.12/1.635 Ferrea MVA valves, guides if needed and a set of beehives.

Seeing that name here just took me by surprise, but guess it shouldn't have. Owned a couple sets of heads that were done in Joe's shop years ago for a old drag car and it just brought back some forgotten memories.

Wnogood: It helps to know what part of the country you are located to answer this question.  There are some great mechanics scattered around.  Let us know from where to start.

I concur with JCZ, Jim at Metal Dragon is tops on the left coast.
